Default Courier Van Timing Belt Change?

Hello there, I have searched high and low but to no avail.

2001 1.8 TDi Ford Courier. What is the timing belt change interval please?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you. I was thinking nearer 60k and 5 years. Would anyone realistically recommend leaving it that long? I only use the van for very light work and do around 28k per year but even so...

Thoughts please?

Personally. I'd change it.

Whenever i buy a secondhand car it gets a new belt on. That's just something i do.

Yeah, I just did. 185k and no service history so no brainer. I was very fortunate as many of the teeth had started to pull away from the belt. Was just a question of when, not if, it failed.

Made me consider changing it every 2 - 3 years irrespective of the mileage*

*(assuming it's still under 100k!)

The older diesel engines are very common for snapping belts. For the escort van 1.8 na I think autodata gives 70k but every mechanic I've ever talked to about it says 20k without doubt.

Interesting reply, Mr Perry, Sir. My previous was indeed a 1.8 D n/a which had the belts changed some 2 years ago; maybe 2.5 years. Anyways, I snapped it after approx 42k, so I take your point. I learned the hard, and expensive, way!
