Default escort Rs turbo cam rattle

I've taken ownership of my friends escort..
Its so slightly tapping so was going to replace cam and lifters.
But when i rev it whilst stationary it has a rattle.. Defo in the head. Also first gear if i get up to 2k rpm it starts to do it.. Its the sorry of sound that you'd get from a car with worn cam bearings..
The every has cast bearings... Will it likely be this or just a heavily worn cam?
I'm tempted to swap the head instead of can and lifters as I'm worried if i replace the lifters and cam it won't remedy the problem

Check for stuck lifters/broke valve springs, or piston slap

Oh.. Lol.. It does sound like play in the cam when revved.. I've got a replacement head just incase the old one is shot..
I'm guessing its original... Although got print out for engine being 165bhp.. Maybe got an aftermarket cam in it that's seen better days

Get yourself a vernier caliper and check the cam journals on the head once its out, this will tell you if the head is worn or not

Think you meant a bore scope. Pretty tricky to measure the journals in the head.

How can you get the calipers in to measure acurately enough?

I tried when my newman cam was too tight in the head.

^^^ there's your answer a friend of mine worked there and they don't do the final checks of the shafts/kits etc they've gone down hill from when they first got there rep, (uneven loabs, castings not cleaned off, wrong set key way

I've done checks using the depth part of a vernier also a long reach DTI gauge
