If it helps ive fitted wasted spark to try and cure it but its still there. Any suggestions how to check the loom, can it be done in situ?

The engine light only comes on when a sensor is completely out of range.
Knowing which sensor saves a lot of time.
Codes can be read (when the light is on) with a led-tester or Star-tester.

Dont think the management gives codes.

The led tester just blinks a number of times and that indicated a potential issue, i think.

Or make the tester yourself. These old led- and star-testers are hard to find.
How to make your own led-tester and read codes: http://www.bigturbo.co.uk/main7.htm

Thanks very much for the replies and i understand how to build a tester from the diagram from the link provided many thanks. If i may i would like to pick your brains one more time, the misfire only occurs under load IE it wont do it when you free rev it only under load being driven. so do i plug in the LCD before or after the light comes on. What i mean is do i drive it the light comes on i plug in the wire and it will provide the code.
cheers

It doesn't matter when you connect the "tester".
What does matter is that valid codes can only be obtained when the engine light is on.
Switching off the engine and restarting it will clear the codes.
