Default Fitting a fuel pump

To a carb?

I am wondering if it's possible or more to the point safe to fit an electronic pump to replace my manual one on my 1.6 cvh carb'd escort?

Also wondering if it would improve the car in any way?

I know it's not a 500bhp question but I would like to know.

Hope this is the right section

Terry

you could but it would have to be a very low pressure one

I have seen ones that are rated 2.5-4.5 psi or bar I can't remember now.
You think that would be low enough?

The latter may be a little too high, the former might be ok, if the pressure is too high it will force fuel past the needle valve.

Very true Martin. The other question is, is there any point in doing this to a 1.6? I see it on v8 engines but they love the juice.

It won't do anything for performance, it simply delivers the fuel.
