Default 2002 Escort Van heater only blowing cold air

Hi I have just bought a 02 plate escort van but the heater does not seem to get warm - It only blows out cold (or at least very very very luke warm) air; anyone got any ideas?
I am ok with taking things apart so would have a go at it myself. I have done a bit of searching on the web and heard it could be the heater valve or maybe the matrix?
Can anone offer any suggestions or had a similar problem. The van has done high milage 148k not sure if that makes any difference?
Any help would be great.
Thanks

not got a heater valve remove a heater pipe see if you have any flow with the engine running fill the heater pipes up before you fit them to stop airlocks if this all fails waterpump would be my guess

Its usually the oil cooler that blocks up. Try bypassing it to see if your heater improves. Its the bit that the oil filter gos onto.

I will do that, I was thinking if I take the outlet pipe from the matrix off and run the engine, I should see then if I have any flow. Fingers crossed. Cheers, Pete
