Default Van wont start T280 mwb 02plate 2litre fwd

hi im new to the forum so if its not the right area please move

i hope that this makes some sense

i have a medium wheelbase transit T280 front wheel drive 2litre 02plate van that wont start
recently i have noticed that the van seems to be running quite well when its warm but its been getting harder to stat
i noticed the other day that when i try to start it from cold the engine turns over a lot faster than it did previously and it was getting more and more dificult to start, now i am finding that the battery discharges very quickly when trying to start it .
an even bigger problem is that i went out to start it this morning and it just wouldnt go even with a jump

please HELP as i need the van for work

could be one of a few things

1 DMF (dual mass flywheel) and clutch breaking up and getting into starter motor
2 timing chain has stretched putting timing out
3 fuel pump worn pressure to low

Thanks Kev for your reply
as far as i am aware DMF has been changed out for a solid by a previous owner

possible timing chain strech as its 120k miles and as far as i am aware its never been touched

fuel pump might also be a possibility as would the fuel filter as i cant remember when the filter was last changed

What else might be causing this problem?

maybe a compression issue, if its spinning over faster than usual.

now that sounds like a good possibility, as its been a slow progression to spinning over faster than usual (getting worse over a week or so)

Does that mean i would be looking at head gasket problem or possibly rings ?

yes but i would inclinced to get it compression tested first. at least you will be able to confirm if there is a problem there.

its a good possibility the head gasket could be at fault as i have just noticed the inside of the headder tank has a black oily coating but oil and water dont seem to be mixing either in engine or header tank

Get it compression tested, as aid if it is turning over quicker than usual then it would suggest you are loosing compression.
