Default Fitting DAB radio to MK6 Fiesta (facelift)

Hi guys i am looking at buying a Sony DAB single CD car radio for my fiesta MK6.

My only question is will i have to buy any other parts to ensure that the DAB radio actually work, as i recall reading somewhere that i must buy some additional adapters and maybe a new aerial to go with it.

If im talking out of my arse feel free to correct me

Steve

I was offered one of these for my cmax as a replacement as my std 6000 one is broken but was told by a guy at fords that it requires more than just a aerial to get it to work?.

I got a dab sony for the wifes focus it comes with a dab antenna which sticks to the screen easy as that i'd recommend fitting it along the pass screen pillar makes it easy for wiring

also uses the std ford ariel for fm

hope this helps ya

This is what im going to get and it SHOULD... fit straight in.

I will be buying the unit off of a private seller and it wont come with the antenna so i will have to buy it separately is the fitting relatively simple then?

Let me know how you get on. I was offered that exact one from the dealership but they say it won't work and its not just a aerial swap.
I personally think it is just a aerial swap so please update your progress.

So just to summarize with the conversion kit you linked on Ebay i wont need to swap the aerial over all i will have to do is fit the conversion kit to the back of the Sony unit and i will get a nice clear DAB radio in my car.

Does this sound right?

Hey guys just got some good news, I have now found someone to sell me a DAB radio! after being messed around a few times online and not being able to find one near me i have finally located one.
I have only one question, on the advert for the aerial adapter it says
"Suitable for the following: with SMB Connector - see image"
this makes me a bit worried because the Sony unit might not have the right DAB connection for the adapter.
I have seen SMB > SMA and SMA > SMB connectors on a website but i would rather know now what i need so i can fit it all this week when the radio unit and adapter arrive.

Help would be greatly appreciated

Did you manage to sort this out yet? I'm not to sure if you need any other adapters but I will be testing my one out this weekend (if my car doesnt get burried in a load of snow) so will let you know.

Hey guys i received my radio and adapter on tues and decided to try and fit it today i have got as far as connecting the adapter to the radio but the bloody blue wire that apparently needed to be spliced to the live ignition wire (which is none existant on fiesta mk6.5's).
I bought it off this website (http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/autol...r-p-11422.html) that said to connect it to the blue wire on the loom that was labelled antenna remote out or ant remote out the only problem is I DONT KNOW WHICH WIRE IT IS! as when i phoned this company up they said it was either the blue wire or the blue AND white wire which i should connect it to. Apparently it is in my car manual but i cant find it!

Pic to follow...

oh and help on which wire is the antenna remote out would be much appreciated!

SUCCESS I now have a fully functional DAB radio in my Ford fiesta MK6.5 without the need for a DAB aerial.
The wire that the adapter had to be fitted to was the ignition live feed. I found this wire by getting a circuit tester and earthing through the cigarette lighter and then i found the wire that engaged when the battery was on and didn't the battery was off, there is a wire next to it which is constantly on which is the one you DO NOT want.

Now i had a bit of trouble getting the new radio in because it was a bit tight where the loom was so i cut through the plastic support at the back so i could put the loom wires behind to allow it to go all the way back in but apart from that it was relatively easy to install. Ill post pics sometime over the weekend of the front but i don't really want to take the radio out again just in case as it did feel like a very tight fit!

I forgot to mention that i had to nip into Halfords to buy 2 antenna adapters the first of which was one to convert the cars aerial connection into one that would fit onto the female end of the DAB adapter.

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_265877

The second one was to convert the DAB adapters male aerial connection into a smaller sized male connection so as to fit into the female port at the back of the radio unit.

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_265877

Now i would like some help in return! I am trying to find the manual for this radio unit online but im having no luck what so ever!

P.S the Bluetooth is awesome

Yeah had a brief look yesterday and figured out I need two aerial adaptors but thanks for the heads up on the DAB adapters. I also need a Quadlock to the old ford loom adaptor too so need to get those before i fit.

My scanner at home is broken at the moment but can scan it at work n email it to you.... thats as soon as it is open any way.

How those pics coming?

Great would be appreciated! im having no luck with loading my contacts onto the radio unit off my Iphone 4! it just says unavailable once it has tried to get them.

I will get some of the head unit tomorrow, if you really need some of the back i suppose i could take it out, its just that it felt really tight going in! It does look super smart though

No thats ok don't take it out if its a tight fit.
I've got the hand books scanned now so will get them over to you mate.

One thing I am strugeling to source is a pre made adapter from the standard ford harness to the quadlock that fits into the back of the head unit so it looks like I might have to try and make one my self, or find an auto electrician that could do one.

Not as easy as I first thought it would be but I've started now so not gonna give up on it

Hi there yes it does have bluetooth which lets u make calls and accept them unfortunately i have an iphone 4 and it seems it is too modern to link my contacts with the radio but calling etc is still fine. try this to see if yours is compatible www.ford-mobile-connectivity.com.

Now im not sure if my car is specially fitted with a mic because i have a small little part that is on the drivers side column that looks like a mic which i will take a photo of tomorrow.

To link your phone up with bluetooth click the phone button and see if all six of the numbers on the display light up if they do then that means all the radios phone slots are used up which means u will have to press up till it says debond then i think click the center button till you have all the ones you do not want removed. you can then go into your phone and pair the radio (which should come up as ford audio on your phone). If this doesn't work go into menu and check if it says BT OFF if so then turn it on. Once your phone is connected you can try and add your contacts to the radio by doing what you did to get to debond and instead find contacts list. Once you have found the contacts section let it try and load your contacts list (mine ends up saying unavailable).

That's about it i think any questions just ask

While im here if anyone knows someone that is selling fiesta mk6.5 colour coded door mouldings for 50 odd quid would be nice!

Steve do the connections in this harness look the same as the one on your car?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-QUADL...item2326892c99

what made me ask was if its the same then what plugs in to the small pins on the bottom of the opening on the back of the stereo... if that makes sence?

Steve,

With your unit when you put your code in and pushed the * button did it just work or did you have to do anything else?

The one I have bought lets me put the code in but when I hit * it goes back to the blank screen to input the code and just keeps going round like that.... getting a bit hacked off now.

Any help would be appriciated.
