Default 2005 Focus LX Estate, 1.6 Petrol. Temp. gauge not working.

Hi Guys

I have a 2005 1.6 petrol Focus LX estate. Sods law Xmas week, temp gauge has stopped working and heater is only luke warm. I live out in the sticks and all my local garages are shut for Xmas. I am not expert (handy but not expert) at these matters but if someone can give me a good idea what the problem is and how to fix, I might be able to do it myself. Reluctant to drive car over Xmas in case I make matters worse. Any help would be appreciated. Regards, Rigracer.

Thermostat most likely. Easy enough to do!

Hi guys. Thanks for the help. Took it in garage in the end. They worked on stat (freed and lubed) but couldn't fix properly so didn't charge me. Factor supplied them with new stat at Ł5.50 but turned out to be wrong. Spoke to a Ford garage who said stat on this car comes complete with the housing at Ł163 quid - are they taking the p--s?
However it has worked ok since garage had it so it will do for now, but would be interested to know if anyone knows exactly what the score is with the thermostat on this model Focus. Thx. Rob.

Can't help directly, but my coil pack died last week on an 04 focus and my googling unearth a handy feature unknown to me.... the dash diagnostic trick!

Hold down the mileage reset trip and start car, hold down till 'test' is displayed on the trip miles display(5-8 secs), now release. Then keep pushing trip buttom down and it run a series of tests including the gauges and warning lights!!

My oil light did not illuminate, checked oil and was low, also another display tells u the actual result from the petrol gauge not sure what its measured in but you can tell how low is low when the fuel light is on!!

Better description here to be honest...

The stat is a few quid, it's just they bought the wrong one, you don't need to change the housing!

I cannot understand, nor have known anyone trying to repair one!
