Cosworth YB cam pulley timing position
Hi, I'm in the process of changing the cambelt on a 2wd YB engine. I set all the timing marks as per various threads on here ( couldn't set the dizzy as engine came without one ). However when I released the tensioner pulley and removed the belt both the cam pulleys shifted out of alignment. They are both now about 1 tooth above the level of the head. Is this normal as when I turn the pulley to the correct position it seems to be opening valves on number 3 cylinder. Do I just turn them into the correct position and hold them there while I fit the new belt ?
Thanks in advance for any assistance

yes just turn them till they are pointing at each other, they dont always point 100% at each other due to machining tolerances but so long as they are close enough for the belt to locate across the teeth properly it will be fine, just make sure you turn the engine over twice by the crankshaft pulley after fitting to make sure nothing is making contact and you will be fine to start it

So the fact that the pulley won't stay in the correct position unless I hold it in place with a spanner while I fit the belt doesn't matter ?

The problem is I can't get the pulleys to stay in those positions without holding them there with a spanner while I fit the belt. Is it normal for this to be the case or are my cams in the wrong position in relation to TDC ?

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
Thats no problem, use a spanner and fit the belt. Turn crank twice and check timing.
