Default 2001 transit 2.0lt diesel, non start

I'm looking at a friends 2001 transit 2.0 diesel, which is a non start. Mate said it would cut out randomly then if he left it afew mins and tried again it would start, however this time it wouldn't restart.
I originally had fault codes p1564 and p1664. Using my solus pro I've cleared code p1564 but p1664 is constantly shown. Fuel gauge is showing 1/4tank, can see fuel in the little bowl by the filter. Cranked off the injectors, upon cranking I am getting fuel from each fuel line at the injector. Tried abit of easy start which it did try and fire on (used sparingly dont like using this). So I've def got a fuelling issue somewhere. (I believe)
I've checked the wiring to the pump can't see any visible chafing, removed the connection and checked pin on harness side which look ok.

Can anyone spare any advise before I condemn it, would rather be certain than sorry.

Thanks.

I would check the pin grip on the fuel pump multiplug first, only need one dodgy or slightly loose connection and it will play up

Very true James lol, another thing to do is take the filter off, give it a shake and empty in into a clear container, see if there's a lot of metal swarf in it, if there is it will mean the cam in the pump has worn. If that is the case, make sure you empty and clean out the fuel tank as well.

Thanks for your responses so far.
I'm just so reluctant to say its knackered when im unsure. I know alot Of people have had issues with them but being such a costly item.
When i cracked off injected pipe one came out under enough pressure to hit the bulkhead 2,3,4 still bled quite abit just not as much as cyl 1. May have another look at the wiring again.

If the pump is knackered a replacement will be more than the value of the van. It's abit of a beast.

rob ,i was in the same boat mate ,tried everything and all the fault codes led back to the pump/wiring .checked all the wiring and the only thing was to bite the bullet and take off the pump and have it checked out,i was lucky enough to have a spare pump so got it uncoded and i was back in action

Thanks james, when you say you got your pump "uncoded" what do you mean? Do they need to be uncoded if they are from a donar vehicle?
