where did you get them from i've been wanting some but bit pricey, how much did you pay? is it a 2 litre? I don't think its gonna be an easy job by any means, i've change a cam belt and scared me loads! I would recommend making lots of marking everywhere, so theres no chance of messing up, glad i did when the crack rolled backwards even with a the locking pin in place!

You will need to get some new shims made up mate pretty sure of that. Wouldn't advise fitting them yourself would let a garage do it if you aren't sure

Like anything a doddle if you know how, maybe get a mate round to help who knows his way around these, you get to learn at same time.
There shouldn't be any fitting problem at all, as will be(should be) zeroed on the key(if any), if not the normal zetec pulleys have no key, but a offset slot in rear of cam, can't go wrong, belts are easy, but easy to see why they do look daunting at first, a trusty haynes manual is a good start, think of it as a big mecanno set!!
Just be aware that fords systems on parts from the reg number is not always accurate, especially around 98-02, there are two different types of rocker cover gasket used, so buy both and take back the wrong one afterwards for refund.

You cannot fit aftermarket cams without at least re shimming the inlet valves and for that you need a special gauge and then you either have to make the shims up or order them. Not something I'd recommend you'd do even with a mate that kind of knows what he's doing. Easy to fuck up and for it to go tits up.

99.9% sure clearances will be out when you fit the new cams.

Sorry my cock up, you are of course quite correct, I forgot this was one of the backward steps over the old silver top, ie to go mechanical lifters, but must say I prefer them!!
Yes pani k is totally correct they will need shimming, I just forgot the year of the engine was shim tappets, easy enough to do with a vernier and basic maths, but leaves you without a engine till you collect the correct(thickness) ones, you can often do swappsies, to cut down the number you need, and a lot of pug/audi/seat/vw ones the same shim, but fords normally hold a good stock, or engine place even better/cheaper, last time I needed 2 on a 1.8 diesel escort, other 6 did swappsies, they were about £3 each, can even take them out(on the escort anyway) without disturbing cam.

Default shimming

A set of feeler gauges and the know-how mate and youll be fine. Defo need shimmed due to altered clearances with higher lifts etc.
