Default almost dying

'89 XR4x4 2.9. Every time I pull up at a junction and dip the clutch it almost stalls & also when I'm just cruising along at just above tickover it does a big missfire or something it's like you switch the ignition off & back on again within a second. Could it be throttle posision sensor ? Anybody any ideas
