Default Fuel Filter Renewal Fiesta mk4

Hi all...new here and got a seemingly simple question...

How easy/hard is it to change the fuel filter on a mk4 Fiesta?

It is 10 years old, I bought it 1 year ago....unfortunately it didnt have a service history and I got it on the cheap. Since then I've done my own work but this has only ever amounted to changing the oil/filter and the spark plugs.

It's due to have the filter changed and if its easy to do I'll do it myself....just need some pointers for what to look out for

and if someone has some pictures of the location and fitting then that would be an added bonus!

thanks in advance

Hello mate,
Not sure where the filter is on your car. Likely be near the tank rather than in engine bay.
Clips can be a bit fiddley on the fuel line ends which go to your filter.
Don't go mad with force when you do it, but push the fuel line end towards the filter before you squeeze the clip and it should unclip nicely and behave.
You've already managed your oil and filter, and a set of spark plugs on your jack jones so you will probably be competent enough to see what the score is with the filter.

Have a bowl or something to catch the fuel in, and if you get it up on a ramp when you do it, the petrol will try and run down your arm to burn your pits.
Get some decent soap and cream on your mitts after aswell.... Safety..

Just ask again if you still need info.

thanks for that

just as an aside, does the fuel tank have to be empty? I have visions of the entire tank emptying up my arm now lol

It's very easy, did it on my mk5. I'd recommend getting a jubilee clip big enough to go round the filter though, as the original clips are a bastard to re-fit, and jubilee clips are better for the job IMO.
Lay next to car, new filter at the ready, clip one side off old filter, clip straight onto new filter, same with other side. Do it quick enough, or use the caps some new filters have on them, to prevent fuel spillage. Then jubilee new one up
Make sure you put the new one on the right way too
