Default 2 ltr zetec in a mk6 escort

i want some more power in my girlfriends 1.6 zetec escort mk6 cabriolet

is is posable to fit a 2ltr silvertop engine into the escort ??

i will use the original clutch so the gearbox will remain but will the original ECU work ok on it or will it run lean ??

we have chipped the car and fitted a K&N airfilter and DeCat with an RS2000 mongoose SS exhaust so far but i dont want to waste too much money on the little 1.6 engine if it is possible to swap with a mondeo motor

cheeRS in advance Phil

done a 2ltr silver top into a p reg 1.8si was pretty much straight forward, you will need to fit the following from your 1.6, sump and oil pump pick up, water pump as the 2 ltr flows in a different direction(20 quid ish from motor factors, may as well do the timing belt kit while you`re on) you may need a 1.8 zetec clutch mind as i used the original with no problems on my si and the 1.6 may not cope, i had to change the flywheel sensor as the 2ltr one pointed a different way,but i think this was cos i used the engine from a mondy auto with a knackered box, make sure you connect all breather pipes on the back of the manifold as mine kept cutting out as i forgot about one of them, the ecu should be ok but i`d get a 1.8 from an si gti or ghia to be sure, if yours has the egr pipes in the exhaust manifold ditch it for a manifold from a 1.8 with no egr in it(some 18s have them in some dont and the egr probes protrude quite far into the exhaust ports so will free up alittle more power)good luck and make sure you refit the 1.6 cam pulley cover to make it look like a 1.6 from a quick glance

p.s. if you keep the 2ltr oil pump in, use a cvh oil filter to clear the bodywork,we used a fiesta turbo one when we converted my cousins mk3

Also you will need to swap the flywheel aswell if you are running an ib5 gearbox as the 2.0 flywheel wont fit inside the bell housing , aswell as the clutch as the mtx ones have a larger input shaft so the ib5 wont engage on the mondeo clutch plate.

some people also swap the oil pump for the escort/fiesta one as the filter comesoff at an angle to clear the chassis but i normally just fit a renault clio 1.8/2.0 16v one from a williams or similar works out to be about the same price as the oilpump gasket but without all the faff and hassle and can give more clearance than the cvh one if you think it might be a little close for your liking.

Wouldnt think you would need an uprated clutch as we have a 1.8zvh with a stage 3 head running 175bhp on a std but new mk4 escort 1.8 diesel clutch with no problems.
