Afternoon,

New to this forum and really need some help,

I have a Ford Feista Mk6 (02 Plate) and about a week ago my heater stopped working on 1, 2, 3, however works on 4 - and it blows hot and cold!

I dont have a cigarette lighter and the air con light comes on when it is set to number 4.

Now I have done some research on this site and the heater pack resistor seems to get the blame! However, where would I find that on MK 6?

Do you know if there is photographs explaining how to replace or shall I get a Haynes manual?

the resistor is on the heater box were your fan is
yeah setting 1,2,3 are controled by the resistor and no.4 is p/live

Seems like quite a common problem.

I had the same problem and have just changed the resistor as suggested and it now works.
Very easy, 10 mins and no special tools.

Heres how.

Tools.. screwdriver and torx driver


remove lower plastic below steering wheel, 5 screws..


Crawl into the footwell and look up to the middle of the car, clutch pedal is a little in the way..




Look for the resistor (It's the hole as I had already taken it out before taking a photo!)
and undo the 2 torx screws(careful not to lose them).


pull the resistor down..


and change it over.

I got mine off eBay for cheaper than a second hand part !!

whilst we are on the heater topic only yesterday did my gf heater seatings knob stop doing its job IE floor,face,windscreen all it does it turn now with out making adjustments as told by Ford today the panel is £185 and cable behind is £25 does anybody no how to locate said cable.and also how to remove front panel.

The heater in my MK6 2003 fiesta as of yesterday only works on position 4 and makes a horrible rumbling noise. I'm assuming the resistor pack and the motor need changing.

Now thinking it would be straight forward I've located the resistor pack easily, but the motor doesn't match the picture above and I can't see how to get to it, any ideas?

Yes, you are correct!

The motor rumbling you may be able to sort out with some lubrication.

Is your motor, the passenger side of the dash?

Cold air out the heater is could be a sign that the coolant was not taking heat off the engine properly. Make sure the water pump is working fine. Heater control can be bad or your heater cable come off on the heater box.

Hmm, looking again at the photos you can see the mounting posts for the motor are still present in the moulding for my car, but no motor is attached. So they've moved it, but where to!

They aren't my symptoms, the heater motor only works in position 4 (bad resistor pack) and the motor sounds horrible when it is running.

It was blowing the correct temp air yesterday before it packed up. Initially it only worked in position 4, then after 30 mins on full, it went horribly noisy.

Does anyone have the Haynes manual for the mk6 they could take a look and see if it mentions 2 different positions the heater motor could be in?

I have a feeling mine is buried somewhere in the dash...

How easy was it to get out once you found it? Did the Haynes manual help you massively?

I've had a look before how you get it out, but really couldn't work it out.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have sold the car now and the manual went with it!

But the blower motor was easy with the manual, maybe 20 mins work. From what I remember, the glove box comes out, the fuse panel needs to be unbolted and moved out the way, there is a plastic hose to the vents that is easily removed and then the motor is unscrewed and manouvered out.

Followed step by step today and all working fine. Bought part from ford for £20. Air con without any vibration & blowers working on all settings.

I also wanted to say thanks to UKTony135 too. Got the old pack out and got a new one on the way from ebay. This is the 3rd one that's failed and garages have charged me a damn site more that £8.99 to fix it! With it being the 3rd one (in 3 years) I am wondering if there is something causing it. Perhaps my fan motor? I know I have an electrical faults somewhere, but several mechanics have told me that the only fault they can find is that the dashboard light won't go out.

Sorry to add to an old thread but it seems to me the major cause of the resistor pack blowing is because the blower motor is not blowing as well as it should.

The way it seems to be designed (with the resistor pack buried in such a stupid place) is so the airflow from the fan cools the resistor pack and stops it overheating. If the fan is failing (and especially if there are any rumbling or squeaking sounds), the airflow will be less than it should and it won't cool the resistor pack - especially on '1' when the air flow is minimal but the voltage drop across the resistor is at maximum. So it would be worth lubing the blower motor bearings if your resistor pack blows. Might save you replacing it again in a couple of weeks!

My fan too was only working on number 4. Thanks to the information on this thread I purchased a new heater resistor for my 07 plate 1.4 tdci (ebay item number 390657286001 - £5.99 delivered). I located the old one having removed the plastic panel directly below the steering wheel (the one with the diagnostic cable slot in). It is tucked away almost directly above the clutch pedal (10 o'clock position almost). Having finally managed to fit the new one the fan works perfectly now.

Hi my fiesta is only blowing air from the middle 2 vents not the 2 end ones any advice
