Default Looking for advice on buget Zetec ecu

Good afternoon everyone. I am looking for some advice with regards to a budget ecu for a 2.0litre Zetec. The engine is to be fitted into a Westfield (ok I know its not really a Ford, but it has an awful lot of Ford its in it). I did not build it, but bought it 99% complete. The Westie was originally built with a 1600 Ford Crossflow motor but I always intended to replace this with a modern Ford 16valve motor. There are currently brand new 2.0 litre Zetecs available on Ebay for £700, and I intend to purchase one of these. I am able to do most of the plumbing and mechanics, but have no idea with the ecu. For the time being I would like to run the engine on the standard Ford fuel and ignition systams that come with these engines.
I do have some history with this, as about 10 years ago I fitted a 1600 Zetec and type9 5 sped into a MK2 Escort. A guy from Sunderland wired a much later Ford ecu and harness into the car and it ran brilliantly on the standard Ford parts. Unfortunately I have since lost touch with the guy and wondered if anyone else has experience of doing this or can point me in the right direction.
Thanks in anticipation of your help
Jon

Easiest solution is probably get a pre pats ecu from mondeo etc, and make that fit along with it's loom.

Tabetha, please excuse my ignorance, but what is a 'pre pats ecu' ? The guy who built the look for my MK2 Zetec new exactly which Ford ecu to us along with the loom from a different Ford. He also knew which wires were needed and which were not. I wish I still had his details.
Thanks for your interest

No probs, the PATS is fords Passive Anti Theft System, this is a combo of a locked ecu that needs the relevant coded(chipped) ket to unlock it, picked up by a transponder mounted around the ignition barrel.
If using a pats one so long as you use the key, or at least have it close enough to the sensor to be picked up then the whole lot can be used, just a lot easier with pre pats as it is just a case of powering the ecu no coded keys etc to worry about.

Tabetha, thanks again for you interest, but with another question (or 2). Hod would I know if a car was 'pre pats' and would the car have to be a 2.0litre or would I just need the 2.0litre ecu and any pre pats loom?
I presume this is something along the lines of what the guy did in my MK2, only he knew from experience what car to take the loom from and what parts of it he could do away with. I seem to remember him telling me that only certain looms were suitable, but not exactly which ones.
Thanks again.

All I know is the early ones were pre pats, what exact year etc I don't know, I would get the loom from the car with the ecu if possible, this way you can always slim it down, but know for certain you have everything you need to start with engine wise.
Maybe give FOCUS/MONDEOPART a call on 01603 866999, as they do nothing but focus and mondy spares.

Tabetha/rs220bhp.
Tabetha, thanks again for your interest. I know that the guy who did my MK2 told me that only certain ecus and certain looms were good to do this with. I will follow your contact to FOCUS/MONDEOPARTS and see if they can help with the parts rs220bhp has recomended.
rs220bhp, thanks for your interest. Can you please enlighten me to what exactly you man by 'deep, desk or dewy' ecu ?

Further to my loosing contact with the guy who helped me with my Mk2.
I was discussing this with my brother this afternoon and he asked if I had tried searching for him online, now why didn't I think of that. Sitting here this evening, I remember Michael Sharman (thats his name) once mentioned to me that if he ever started a business he would call himself 'Mr Zetec'.
I googled 'Mr Zetec, Sunderland' and it came up with 2 mentions of Michael, one on this very forum, calling himself of course 'Mr Zetec'.
He has made no posts here since joining, but I have sent him a private message via the forum.
I will let you if he contacts me. I will continue this thread and let you guys know how I get on with this build.
Thanks again for your help

Tabetha, I tried that number for FOCUS/MONDEOPARTS a few times today but it just rang out and never got answered. Where are they situated or do you have a email address for them?
Thanks again
