Default No dipped beam on escort rs turbo?!?!

I had problems with my grey s2, and now it's my red s2's turn!
Drove it last night and I have sidelights and high beam. The flashers also work..... however - I have no dipped beam?!
I have checked the obvious including the bulbs themselves, fuses and swapping the 2 small grey relays - Still not working
What do I check next?
This was all after spending the day replacing light seals, welding the battery tray, sills and front floor pans!!!!!!

check around where you have welded mate and make sure you havnt melted any wires, failing that it could possibly be the light stalk

Hi mate and thanks for the almost immediate reply lol.
Welding was done after the lights played up - so you think it must be the indicator stalk then? I'll take it to bits tomorrow and do some multimeter work if thats the case.
Cheers, Paul

my old orion had same problem,my dads xr3i has same problem rite now and my rst cab also has this problem aswell.
my mate fixed the orion by wedging the 2 relays in a different position.on my dads xr3i we changed the high beam to dipped beam wires around just so he can use it for now on back of headlights.
on my cab ive had to drive it on high beam for now as i ent got round to it. ive played with the relays and doesnt make a difference.must be the contacts in fuse box.
it defo wont be the switch mate

Bleedin eck! Take it this is a common problem lol.
I put a voltage meter onto the contacts in the fusebox with fuse out (lights on of course) and there was no power either side of it. that's what made me think it must be further back in the system

Both! lol.
Just been having another play with it now (just to make things more complicated)..... ok, ignition on, sidelights are ok. turn them onto dipped beam - the sidelights are on but only about half power so very dim and when you turn it from sidelights to dipped beam, you can hear a rely clicking.
Have had the connector off the back of the switch and when I run a direct live to sidelights - they work, to the main beam - they work, then to another position (which I suspect must be the dipped beam) a relay clicks but no dipped beam!
There is no power to the connectors on the back of the lights whatsoever....
I hate wiring!

I also have the same problem. But mine take time to come on.Depending how cold it is.The colder the weather, the longer it takes for them to come on.

When they aint working, the side lights will go dim when trying the main lights.

been bugging me loads lol

Gotta be worth trying a new relay, and if your only getting half power I'd also clean the earths up on the inner wings

Hi there just to say this is a common problem on mk4's load's have had same problem as it's been said the 2 relay's at the back of fuse box melt
got mine 2 come on by wiggling relay's clicking is sign that it's getting power so either naffed relay's or problem with fuse boxalso have you swapped the light switch ?
took mine to leecy's and they moved relay out of fuse box........
lights now work no more half beam or getting out to play with relay's........
