it looks like a lucas pump and if it is you have to cut open the pump to change it, are you sure it aint a immobilizer fault has they been any build up to this at all? |

you are right it is a lucas pump, it was running fine for a couple of days with few slight misses here and there then one morning i came out and it was quite cold and its cranked a few times to start but i thought some of the glow plugs were gone so i replaced glow plugs and it fired so i thought that was it, then i drove to a friends 15 miles away and parked it up for 3 hours and come back out and nothing, so my friend a mechanic said to check immobiliser light to see if it was flashing when starting and it wasnt so he said its probably the start stop solenoid as i have fuel to the pump else he would reccommend the primer,
any ideas where i need to cut to get at the solenoid |

best to take the pump off you can do it with a dremmel drill with a cuting disc on it but its very time consuming

well before taking pump apart i decided to get my mate whos a mechanic around, he had escorts for years so threw it past him, he checked everything over and said there is fuel going to the pump but not enough pressure to go to the injectors and the primer doesnt go stiff when primed so he diagnosed it to be the primer so i will get one asap and fit and see what happens

hi guys i changed primer pump and it went hard when primed unlike old one so result on that, opened injectors and cranked over till fuel came out, fired up left it running for an hour then drove it 20 miles , turned it off went back and wouldnt start , on the 20 mile drive it cruised along at 85 no problems , but on lev revs it was missing, so i wonder if air is getting in somewhere else, any ideas would be a good help

Sometimes the valve in the plastic fuel line from the primer to the pump can draw air, try sealing it up or bypass it.

got a feeling the fuel is returing back into the tank hence it wont start put a one way valve in so it wont run back, look on ebay for one, the slighest air lock will stop it from starting sometimes you have to drag them down the street to get them going, but one its started it should be bled. must have a air leek somewere

Stick this in the supply line as close to the pump as possible

would be before primer so the filter stays full, you could put a simple clear fuel filter in too so you car see if the fuel is there or not

ok modified all piping and put one way valve in, diesel is goin to pump, just wondered if there was a relay that controlled the pump start stope solenoid cos now i cant get fuel to come through the injectors, wondered whether may be a faulty relay or whether it is the solenoid still, as well as the what i hope i cured now the air leak

Slacken the injectors and get someone to prime the pump while you're turning it over.

hi guys there is 3 wires that go to the shut off solenoid on my pump something to do with pats?????, any ideas what these 3 do as as far as i was aware it would only need a single 12v feed, anyone know if this is bypassable cos its an antitamoer casing around my solenoid so i gotta take pump out just wondered if any tricks to test without taking pump off
