Default alternator belt for escort van , how to tighten

my alternator belt is squealing on the van, has happened for a day or so since its been proper cold i realy need to tighten it up as its proper dammed annoying,

Can anyone tell me how to do it, obviously no garages open today, And also i will have to park the van one side on a curb as i have no axle stands / ramps

Undo the bolt on the alternator bracket that tensions it......get a pry bar or similar implement and apply more tension on the belt.....tighten up, and job done. It may also squeel if you properly overtighten it so just give it a go and see how you get on, very simple job. May be helpful to have another person tighten up the bolt when you tension the belt.

As above but depending on the year of the van some have a "geared" arrangement on the adjuster which you simply turn after loosening the locknut, turn to tension then tighten locknut, looking for around 1/2" deflection on the longest run.

hi, has anyone got a rough diagram of which way the belt goes round? please.
