rest the thread of the plug on 1 of the terminals of a car battery, run a length of wire from the other terminal of the battery and touch the end of the glow plug with the end of the wire, should start to glow red if not then its f*****. glow plugs dont explain why its cutting out, could be fuel pump fault?

instead of trying to start the car as soon as the glow plug light goes off wait till you here a click from under the bonnet this will be around 10 seconds,if your plugs are working this will help.put a multi metre on the glow plug and to earth then turn the ignition on to make sure your getting power to the glow plugs.

I'm having a similar problem with my 1.8D (non-TD) van... got the battery charged and checked there's fuel at the injector, but it's just churning over and over.

The glow-plug light comes on and then goes off, and I've tried leaving the ignition on for a little longer... but she still won't fire up. I don't notice a clicking from the engine at all?!

Where is the glow plug relay/glow plugs, please? Could do with getting it moving again sometime this year...

thanks -- like on the passenger side front wing or in the battery bay?

there's a single inline fuse holder that was attached to the battery that's never had a fuse in it, but i figured this was for the towbar or something?

TIA

Got it, thanks, the big red fuse (right on the battery) was fine... Tried it with a continuity tester and seems alright.

Can anyone point me in the direction of where to look for relay/glow plugs now please?

glow plugs are at the front of the engine joined together with a piece of wire running across the tops of them x4!

glow plug relay is on the passenger side inner wing large black one, according to the haynes manual ford did change the relay to a one that operates the glow plugs for longer, mite be worth checking that yours is the never version, have you taken a glow plug out to check if its working direct off the battery be careful as they do get really hot.if glow plugs arnt at there best it will certainly show in this cold weather.

That's my next stop -- now I think I know what I'm looking for! I think I've identified the relay but on tracing it I can't seem to see anything obvious that looks glow plug like.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm out of clues when it comes to derver's!
