Go for the 70, go even bigger if you can get one to fit if running lots of ICE.
A 70 amp alternator will only continuously put out around 40 amps, the 70 is a peak reading, sometimes less than 1 second!!
The formula for KW to amps is V/I X R, so the simple way is watts/volts = amps
1 KW is 1000watts, which if divided by volts of 12 would be =
83.333 AMPS.

Tebetha your a genius! 0.85kw is 70.8amp thats what I need! thundercats to you! its only an extra fiver for the 70amp. will get some pictures up soon of her she will be fit for a king soon. ahh another million dollar question dude one of my tappets is gone, would you replace them all or just the one and if so would i need to take out the camshaft?

many thanks ryan

No the cam doesn't need to come out to fit the new tappets, indeed it actually needs to be in place to put the new ones in otherwise they will just fall all the way through!!
You also don't need to change the cam as some will tell you, the reason for this is the tappets rotate a little every time they go up and down, this is to keep the wear even on the bottom of the tappet, and the reason they are offset and not dead in centre of the lobe, this also has the added advantage of keeping the cam lobe wear even.
I'd personally replace the lot, AFTER flushing the engine by running around with wynns engine flush for a few hundred miles, this will cause no problems at all, the packaging/bottle says 10 minutes at idle but it will be fine for a few hundred, been doing it years, use it on my cossie also, which has around 180,000 on the original bottom end, and still fine.
