Default can a turbo be heat wrapped?

quite a simple question really, can a turbo be heat wrapped and will it do it any damage etc if it is?

just thinking of ways to keep under bonnet temps down?

cheers

Yes and no in that order, you can buy specific turbo jackets for this very purpose.

I used a Turbo jacket on a Topspeed run & it cooked the Turbo, I also know that Neil (Carwise) had the exact same problem on another Topspeed run using a jacket so i dont use one.

I also know someone who cooked a new turbo when he heat wrapped it so personally wouldn't. I would do the downpipe and manifold, also we have found wrapping the charge carrier pipe on an rst reduces charge temps

In that case, why is a reduction of engine bay temperature required? Surely you have sufficient cooling in there as it is. Maybe you are just looking into something that is not neccessary?

well its a zetec turbo in a mk3 fiesta, its a tight squeeze in there to say the least and my intercooler covers my whole radiator. and i dont want the turbo building up under bonnet temperatures as i dont want the engine running too hot

cheers

More vents in the bonnet would help.
If you have a mental car like the worlds fastest OAP, then I wouldn't use one either, but most are not like that, Rod does bloody well imo for his age, good to see it, would like one day a passenger ride but need to buy some more pants first!!
