Default Fiesta TDCi EML Problems

Hi all, my mum is having bother with her 07 Fiesta 1.4 TDCi, i thought i'd ask on here to see if anyone has any ideas, as the Ford mechanics are lost.

Basically, its a totally random problem, can happen at any time, and go as quickly as it came.

Its just the engine management light pops on, the car goes into limp mode, and sometimes it goes off, sometimes it stays on.

Sometimes if you turn it off, the light will be off when you turn it back on, other times, it will still be on.

Mum has been back again today, and they dont have a clue. But they have ordered a relay (she didnt ask what relay).

So, anyone heard of this, or have any ideas?

Many thanks.

Surely there should be a fault code stored? Even if the light goes out again there should still be a code stored.....

07 plate fiesta? EML comes on? Get it into Ford (if you haven't already) under warranty.

No fault codes stored for some reason.

Been back to ford loads, they dont know whats up with it.

Got 1 year of warrenty left.

Just seeing if anyone else has had a similar problem, or may know what the problem is, so i can give the info to the ford dealership.

Have you took it to a different ford dealer? Maybe they are incompetent fuds, wouldn't be the first sighting of one behind the ford service counter

Never thought of that, i assumed they would have some sort of network to check for these sorts of uncommon problems?

Or is that too much to ask?

Put it this way, the new car I have just bought was missing its locking wheel nut key. Took it to ford down the road, they said there was no way of getting the locking nuts off, they would need to be ground off/beaten off with a hammer, took it to another ford dealer a few miles away and they had a ford master key that dealers have to remove all ford locking nuts. 10 minutes later and it had a nice shiny new set fitted!

So I think that the level of technical expertise that you car is cherished with can vary massively at different dealers!

As said try another dealer, I do hope you are NOT being charged in light of the fact the car is NOT being fixed.
Ask them for a courtesy car, then don't hand it back until yours is sorted.
It's often a problem with intermitant faults, they are never there when you want them to be, it's even more annoying as it's usually something dead simple.
The clue is the fact that it does not flag up a fault code, this massively narrows down the range of things that can cause it, it almost certainly is a sensor, most have upper and lower limits, which if exceeded set up a fault code.
One that doesn't have limits on some is the CTS, coolant temp sensor, and if this is missing, a return signal to the ecu will go into LOS, limited operation strategy(ford speak for limp home mode), you can test this simply by unplugging it and driving the car, it should go into los and the cooling fan come on.

Yes i have the same Fault, It happens to mine when I use the screen wash or there is heavy rain - Cause water drips down the wind screen wiper seal (LEFT ONE) at the point of where the wipwr is joined to the car and drips all over the Electrics I put a plastic bag around mine and its never done it since,
