xr3i alternator
needing help choosing an alternator guys mines is cooked! will any cvh alternator fit in my 1989 mfi xr3i? i can get one of a 1.4 cvh at my local scrappy or if anyone knows where i can get one that would be better. i hooked up a sub/amp to my car and since then the car is lasting no longer than five mins jump started with the stereo off and the lights/fan on just goes dim and cuts out. battery is new so i assume its the alternator needing replaced as the belt is fairly new and tict! any help please many thanks

Have you tried with the sub off and running to see if it's ok then? It may be coincidence since you fitted the ICE, your alternator should be fine anyway. Easy way to test to check charging system is to turn head lights on with engine off observe brightness and then start the engine on they should be brighter.
Another CVH one I'm pretty sure will phisically fit from 1.4 to 1.6

If you are drawing enough juice with the ice, then the alt can certainly expire very quickly, as a rough rule they will only give out continuously around 1/3 to 1/2 of their rated output, which is a peak, which can be as brief as less than a second.
In short if using loads of ice, think about additional battery or alt upgrade.
Loads of different ford fitments ones will fit, they can also be spun round 180 if they are the wrong "hand" side.
