Default Whats easiest...engine and box fitted together or engine in and then box.

As per title.....whats easiest? I have a engine crane at my disposal.

Its a Mk1 Cortina / Sierra Saph hybrid.....has Sierra engine bay and tunnel so just as fitting to a normal Saph.

If you have one of the tilters for the hoist as well, then engine box together, if not seperately is how I'd do it.

build engine and gearbox up together then mount the front crossmember on to the engine and put it all on a slide board. use the engine hoist to lift the front of the car up high enough to slide the engine/gearbox under the car. drop car on to engine/gearbox and use engine hoist to lift the lot up to the car. its easy

easier to lift engine in and out on its own IMO, but lining up gearbox when in situ can be the biggest problem, it can take a long time to get them to slide together.
