Default my new xr3i needing techs advice!

hi everybody am very new to the forum just bought an xr3i cab mfi 1989 just needing some advice. My dash clocks are stained and the tachometer dont work to well need them replaced. could i put the clocks out of say mk3 xr3 or mk4 efi in her? I cant find any black mk4 mfi clocks anywhere really. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have other issues with filler cap is a bit milky! could it goes a long time without needing the head changed if I took care of her although I will be doing 1000-1500 miles a month

cheers
ryan

I wouldn't immediately worry about the slight milkiness, just use it get it nice and hot, if it's always done city work/short trips this is not uncommon. just needs a good run.
The xr3 clocks are different to the xr3i, the xr3 has a normal round type rev counter, where as the xr3i has a the 1/4 scale one like sierra's.
But that apart if they fit they will work as ignition system is the same.
On the 3i the faces of the dials peel away and jam the needle, as well as the paint falling off, just put on some lockwood dials, but DON'T pull the needles off, you don't need to easy to do without doing this.

much appreciated!! Saw some xr3 clocks on ebay today. The shape of the box is the same so i'll see if i can use them. I have had the clocks out with the speedo cable still in is it hard to disconnect the cable/ i.e can unscrew/unclip by hand? The man i bought it from had the car running rich, would you let run like that with say if i bought a performance air filter or induction kit or just reset it to the standard? many thanks

Ebay is your friend for bits like that just try and find some one breaking one close by to you write yourself a list of bits you want and get them all from the same person it saves alot of faffing about
