Default Ford Focus Diesel Problem

Hi, I have a ford focus 1800 tddi w reg, done around 105,000 miles

i was driving my car and i had my gear in second rather than 1st as i was turning in a back lane. the engine cut out ( stalled) the engine would not start up again. i checked the jectors and fuel is coming out once lossend them. checked all fueses and relays , all good. i have never had any previous problems with this car before

took my car to a diagnotic centre, they rekon it is the fuel pump, also they rekon i would need to change my timing belt if i was chaging my fuel pump, this would cost my £990 for a new timing belt and fuel pump supplied and fitted. i have not done dealings with this garage before , i may get a second opinion just incases they are wrong. as i have heard that a certain sensor on the car may be the problem ???? but im unsure??

has any of you experts got any other ideas i could try plz ??

many thanks

I would take it to a specific diesel specialist, the crank sensor or cam sensor can both prevent it from starting.
A fault code may be logged if this is the case.
It's extremely unlikely to be the pump, and even if it were repair is a lot cheaper, belts are a doddle to do on these as well, the price is steep imo.

I can't of course gaurantee the pump isn't duff, as the car is not in front of me, but they do usually play up in a few ways first.
