Maximum Size Battery
#2
095 pretty sure, but have a measure up, and do research about on carbatteryshop.co.uk etc.
99% of fords will take three different batteries sizes on the battery tray, the obvious bigger capacity ones would be diesel variants of that shell/body.
But if looking for max performance it would be a AGM, but around £150, the Varta Blue Dynamic is a ace value/performance way above std fitment, that's what I use.

No, alternator will be fine(if ok), the only time you will need a higher output alternator is if the load exceeds what the alt can provide, it will take slightly longer to fully charge if allowed to get flat, but normal day to day stuff will be perfectly fine.

If yours is a 063 it is a ROUND post type, so the one I suggested is no good as Ford terminal(flat).
That being the case your battery 063 will be around, 44AH, 360CCA
the next one up is the 075 at 60AH and 525 CCA, then 096 at 72AH and 680 CCA.
AH being amps per hour(energy density) the CCA is cold cranking amps, so the higher the number the more amps available for cranking.
A AGM type can be around 50% up on the 096 for the same size, but these are really suited to cars left long periods as self discharge is so low, normal battery is around 1% per day, AGM is less than 1% per week self discharge.
Sorry about the confusion I thought yours had a Ford type terminal battery.

I can't see anything bigger than a 095 fitting without cutting the tray about, but I have had a 120AH 980CCA battery on a 2L sierra before!!, this was with modded tray though.

If yours has 063 (round) then the 096 (round) is the bigger swap
If it has the 085 (flat) then as we have said its the 095 (flat)
To be honest I lost it ages ago as to if you have round or flat posts or even round with convertors etc so went of your 063 original posting details.
There will be no need to change the alternator.
Why do you need bigger ?

It may assist you to know, there is currently only 2 manufacturers in the world making FLAT type terminal ford batteries, all moving to round, as fitted before since 93 on fords.
I personally would go for round, saves hassle in the future, other wise in future years will just have to eventually change anyway.

The clamps be be changed easy enough, the best way though is to take the leads off, and get a auto electrical place to crimp them and solder on, just as a bit more secure that way when soldered.
In the past I have simply put on the round clamps inserted the main cable and secured with the two screws provided, and it's worked perfectly well, another option is to put a long bolt through the bit where the cable would go in the clamp and bolt up through here using a couple of washers at each end.
