Unhappy Oil in my water ! !

I am right pissed off atm, everytime I read about people and their Cosworths breaking down I allways think, mines ok why do people keep moaning but alas something has failed .
The car is 2wd,200 block,cometic h/gasket running greens,k&n filter a 4x4 cooler and a -34 @ 20psi and has covered 10,000 miles in the 21 months I have owned it.
It had not long had a engine and box rebuild just before I got it.I got the car off Baskys bro in law and think Basky did the work < not pointing fingers because he IS competent enough, anyhoo the car is not over heating, its not loseing water but the bloody header tank has quite a lot of oil in it.At first I thought it may been down to it still running the standard kidney box witch is just vented off.I do have a baily breather but just never got around to fitting it < is this the problem ?
I will flush the system even though this was done 6mnth ago when I changed the hoses. What does anyone think, please dont say HG.Knowning my luck the head will be piss thin and scrap when it comes off.I also remember the problems that were had with the calibra head, were they poruos or something and mixed the oil and water ? Did the yb ever suffer this ?
p l e a s e help . . . .

YB never suffered pourosity problems, as Cosworth actually pioneered and patented a new casting technique on the YB heads.
The two logical places where these two are in close contact is the HG, and the modine, if you still have one, these can leak after a lot of years, and mix together.
The breather vent cannot cause oil in the water.

Cheers yet again Tabetha,as usual you are the first to offer a solution But,what the hell is a modine ? I this something to do with the oil cooling at the filter ?.I really really don't think as its the HG.I only say that going from past experience where the cooling system pressurises or in extreme you get steam from the exhaust. It only ever kicks the fan in when I get back near to home and have to crawl through my estate because of the speed humps.Just as I have done the 6 point turn to get it in my yard under the window where I want it the fan kicks in.It only once got hot 18 month ago because the fuse went whilst it was at the mot station. It does get used sometimes for short journeys but also its done two 500 milers recently with no top up or temperature problems.Whats next then before the head has to come off, sniff test ?.
The reason I have been putting off pulling the head is that,I am skint lol.A good hg I can cope with buying, but if it needs a skim or turns out to be foobar I am in trouble atm.8v I would have no probs but with it being 16 and saying Cosworth on it you know it can get expensive .

yeah the modine is the water / oil cooler down by the oil filter, the corode like made ive have 2 or 3 go on me before i'd have a look at that before you start ripping the engine apart!

Sounds like your head gasket is on its way out, I had the sniff test done all was fine, fan kicked in, took it out on boost headgasket decided to go, checked oil filler cap, water and oil mixed up, stripped it down to find out my headgasket was gone.

Thanks peeps, there is no crap on the oil filler cap,its spotless in there. It has been putting bits on the inside of the header tank cap for a while i think but no loss or hot running what so ever.I would be suprised if it is the hg now.The car gets used nearly everyday and as soon as its warm it gets used in anger with no problems.I am thinking now as its the modine thingy now.Bugger

maybe a turbo issue also, maybe the core has a tiny crack in it, wouldn't be unheard of.

At worst if the head gasket is blown, it's just a skim(£35) to the head, if needed, I would personally bypass the modine by joining the two 1/2" hoses together and see if that makes a difference, as this is free to try.

Right, took the header tank off today and cleaned it out.I have given the car a run and will do the same tomorrow. After that I will loop the modine and do the same and see if there is oil.The next step will be to loop the coolent pipes on the turbo and repeat. If I still cant eliminate the problem that way, sniff test it is.Its a bit long winded I know but I should be able to pin point the problem.CheeRS everyone for your input.
