Default Radio Interference

Hi, I am new to the forum and hope that someone can help. I have a 2001 Focus with a standard stereo, a problem has recently started, when I first start the car the radio is fine but after about 5 minutes the reception just dies and I get massive intereference to the point that I can’t listen to it. Can anyone offer any advice as to what has caused this to happen and how I can fix it?

Thanks.

What does the interference sound like, is it a high pitched whine in line with engine revs for example ?

Hi Tabetha,

Thanks for getting involved. No it doesn’t seem linked to the engine at all, its just as if the station is out of range!

Is the aerial through the rear window(de mister), if so and I suspect it is, it sounds as though the aerial amp has packed up, will be located somewhere in tailgate probably.
I will ask matey in morning, as he breaks these.

I get the same on my frs mate

Try undoing the arial off the roof and clean the threads with a small wire brush and do what you can with the threads inside the base on the roof, this sorted my radio proplems.
Add a rubber o-ring in between the base and the arial so water does'nt seep in

Hi Tabetha,

No, the arial is on the roof, in the centre, just behind the front windscreen.

Hi Juddzey455,

Thanks but I did try that already but not with much luck, also the issue is that the reception is fine for about 5 minutes or so and then goes bad, its really weird.

I think that the most likely thing now, as aerial is out is the actual radio itself.
They can be repaired however, I know someone who does these as well as pretty much any make, he's the main uk repair centre for Kenwood as well as a few others, also sells B graded stuff with new gaurantee.
I bought a as new b graded warranty return CD multi changer, with 12 months warranty, as it had 1 tray missing from the boxed changer, he gave me a spare tray which simply pushes in, was well under half the price of everyone else.
