Default Escort RS Convertible hot start problem plz help

I Have a mk5 Escort convertible with rs engine. When cold the car starts first time, however if I take it for blast when I turn it Off and try to start gain its dead. I get the ignition lights ect but then when i turn the key all goes out and dead. If I leave for an hour starts ok. I have a tubular manifold which runs by extremely close to starter motor, thought starter motor was problem and changed it but still happens.

Plz Help as i can't really use it a lot unless i am going to leave it for an hour lol

Cheers Graeme

When it doesn't start, and the ignition lights go out, do they come back on again when released from "start" position ?

Sounds like the starter is getting too hot, can you not make a shield for it ?

I wrapped the starter motor in the heat reflective mat but must be still getting too hot. I was thinking of wrapping the maniflod and downpipe but wasn't sure how well the exhaust wrap worked?

Thanks for your advice

It works extremely well, the better stuff is better but disproportionately so much more costly, I've used the cheapo stuff and it's ace.

Cheers tabetha I will get some then and hopefully this will sort the problem. Would you wrap the turbo aswell or just manifold and downpipe?
