Default ST200 idle speed up/down

evening all,

bought my st200 this morning, and little bit worried.

it was serviced 5k miles ago, got the proof, and is due MOT Nov.

whilst pulling up to junction, dipping the clutch just before stopping, the revs climb to 2300 and sit there until i bring it up to bite (then drops back to normal idle of 1500) and cant figure out why. Aint done any of the filters yet, but seems to be running very warm (not sure exactly how warm it should be) but engine temp, fans etc all seem to be working.
No ticking noises, or any indication on the filler cap of HG failure.

Anyone help???

its your iac valve (idle valve)playing up as all v6 duratecs do from time to time m8.
its bolted to the rear of the uim throttle body side.
st200 svt ones differ slightly from norm v6 as they have a diff ecu.can try one off an st24.

yeah i tried giving it a technical tap while the engine was running, nothing happened, tried disconnecting the plug to it and nothing happened then either.

My mate has a diagnostic tool, and it came up with MAF inlet low. Took it to bits and gave it a blast with the contact cleaner spray, but it hasn't made much difference.

Tried running the car with the MAF disconnected and it ran well low at idle (800rpm) but i didnt get the kangaroo effect whilst giving it full throttle, as before. How much for a new MAF, by the time i got this far it was 5pm and everywhere was shut. I'm led to believe its a different size to the ST24 and ST220?

wrt Moosing, is there a pipe that you cut in half? i've also found that there is 2 hoses, looks like something is missing underneath the throttle control perhaps a box or a section of hose / pipe thats been cut out and plugged (with blutac beleive it or not) at either end.

Cheers for the help by the way!!

mafs either work or not im my experience.st24 and st200 mafs are the same(should be the 4 wire plug).ive got one on my mk1 and thats running st200 engine with various sensors from a norm v6 ie idle valve etc.
moosing pipes can be a right pain to sort.ive had to fit a longer hose with the throttle hang fix plug to stop the dreaded v6 throttle hang.

so this pipe / hose im on about has been messed with due to the moosing effect? we've had both plugs out either end, one end pulling air in, the other doing nothing - couldnt even trace where this end went, it looked to go into the cabin just under the dash?!

Im gonna source a new MAF, and fit it, see what happens.

Also the Air box has been drilled everywhere! looks like swiss cheese! maybe this is not helping, as in crap getting in and contaminating the MAF, but not 100% sure. the previous owner had fitted a K&N panel filter which looks brand new, and my mate suggested that when they are new they are very oily, and that may have contaminated the sensor.

Your friend is right, the oil from the filter does indeed collect and fry on the hotwire of the sensor, but a good dose of carb cleaner shifts it, I do me dads mondy about every 6 months.
You could try resetting the ecu by pulling the KAM(keep alive memory) fuse, this the makes the ecu relearn it's lost best settings.

pulled the MAF and gave it a good spray with the contact cleaner but its made no difference.

is there history of the idle control sticking on these?

Got a price of £75 for a new MAF from Halfords, so want to explore the cheapest and easiest option first....

yes m8 they are prone to drying out and thus sticking.you can remove them and soak in carb cleaner while moving valve spring up n down.
can get a second hand st24 jobbie to try out off ebay.ive got one on my st200 mk1.
when mafs play up they can stall engine and will run rough and uneven.

!!SUCCESS!!!

Pulled the Idle control Valve and filled it with Omega 636 4n1 oil, worked back and forth for ten minutes, and re-fitted it. started up at the same (1600rpm) then by the time i got to the end of the road to the junction, dropped to idle of 900rpm, which im taking to be pretty normal - most other cars ive had have been around 1000.

Time to order the new MAF to cure the juddering Acceleration whilst full throttle below 3000rpm, above that its fine!
