I've got a XR3i and this morning on my way to work it cut out on me at the traffic lights on idle, and then wouldn't start up again. coasted round the corner and checked everything under the bonnet but couldn't find anything, tried starting a few more times and eventually fired back up and got to work.

checked it over and still couldn't really find anything, replaced the dizzy cap and rotor arm as they both looked a bit worn. started up straight away but as soon as i tried accelerating theres a misfre and spluttering. fuel gauge read 1/4 tank so i thought i'd fill it right up just in case, and it appeared to cure it.......

......but 6 miles down the road, doing a steady 60mph, all of a sudden the revs drop along with my speed, then without moving my foot the revs pick back up again but then spluttered a few more times then was fine.

in all i've driven about 20 miles home and it started misfiring/spluttering 4-5 times

has anybody else had any problems like this please? could it be a lead breaking down or the coil??

Could be a number of things, when was the fuel filter last changed ?

to be honest i've only owned the car for about 5 weeks so i've no idea, ocevered almost 1500 miles in it and not had a problem...until now?!
