Default Zetec Cylinder Head issue help please.

Hi guys,

Right, ive got a slight issue.

Im currently replacing my focus 2.0 (99) cylinder head and have got a replacement one from a guy who had the same blacktop cylinder head but from a mondeo..

Now i thought everyting was identical when i gave it a once over but when i came to fit it i noticed that the timing belt guide pulley (the one on the other side to the tentioner) is slightly bigger. As it also has a larger bolt, i cant use my previous focus pulley + bolt as the hole in the cylinger head is larger.

Also, it wont actually fit to the engine using the larger pulley as the timing belt middle cover (metal one, which the engine mount bolts to) comes in the way.

I need help, as i want to get it done asap and the car is juist sat on my drive.

you could have the hole welded up,then re-drill and tap to the correct size?

Or just get a "bolt" made with bigger thread on one end and then use a nut to mount. -you might also be able to open up the hole on your old pulley to the larger bolt size.

Both jobs look like i will need to take it to a machine shop, somthing i was hoping to avoid. Anyone any idea on how much it would cost to re-drill it smaller?

Ive read everywehere that the heads are interchangeable so surely there must be other people out there that have come across the same issue. Maybe someone that supplys modded pulleys, no?

Anyone have any idea as to why it is different?

no idea why it's different, just get a helicoil from a fasteners place, this will let you use a smaller bolt, it's basically a spring thign which will fit in the larger thread, but you can then wind a bolt into it's inside of the next metric size down.
problem sorted.
i did have the same issue on a 1600zetec in a mk3 fiesta si once though.
