Default What stage is my ecu--with pics

I was wandering if any cosworth boffins could help me to identify my 1990 4x4 ecu ( what stage it is) and also what would be the correct psi of boost to run.
The engine is fit and healthy and I also have a forge red actuator to fit (hence the question)....your help would be much apprieciated,...
heses the pics..

but if its a stage 1, how has it got 4x4 295 written on it,.
I thought stage 1 was up to about 280bhp
The car has also made 281 bhp at the wheels on the rollers?

dependant on who's chip/set up a stage 1 can run over 300 horses m8!

your in a tricky situation tbh,

you know nothing about the chip, who wrote it,whats on it, how the engine should be set up,

i can see from the pic your fuel pressure has been adjusted from std at some point,

my advice is to either, send the chip to somebody who is prepared to read it, and tell you what it is,
or bin it, and buy one from a tuner you trust, then follow the guidance they give you and set it up as they tell you.

the worst thing you can do imo, is start upping boost levels, and changing actuators before you know the facts

and i dont think 281 atw is realistic on std injector flow rates either, atf maybe. but who knows what that chip has on it

well it was 379 bhp, and it made 459 on some rollers

so that says how accurate some can be

So then, the wise thing to do is to leave it alone, and perhaps just have it set up again ?

even a real set up is tricky when you have no idea how to set it up.

a good set up will mean adjusting all base settings, how can you do that when you dont know what they should be?

the BEST thing to do is bin the chip, and get one that you know the facts on, and how to set it up.

MSD for me

www.remapping.co.uk

give them a ring, discuss what you want, and what power you want, they will go through the options open to you.

when you get a chip you will also get instructions on how to set it up, and what base settings you need to apply, and also how to acheive your desired boost level.

also each chip has an id number, so any problems in the future, a simple phone call, and msd can tell you exactly what is on the chip and how to set it up.

if your close they can also set it up for you!

no its not an msd chip, if they have already set it up, ring and speak to them, stu may have read your chip already to see what it is

the other option if your happy with its performance is to leave it alone, it will be safe if msd have set it up,

changing the actuator wont gain you anything, the type you have already imo are the best ones to have

yeah i see where your comming from, its a bit of a guessing game when you dont know whats on there

at least if you got a stage 1 chip from msd, you would know how to base set it,

it would concern me a bit that the fuel pressure has been messed with tbh, theres not many reasons to do that, unless its a crap chip, or someone who doesnt know what they are doing has been there at some point unless they are trying to get more flow from the std injectors for some bizarre reason

give them a call mate

Get a New chip and start again cheaper than a engine rebuild at Ł1500 just for the bottom end in parts and machining without labour!!!!!

even more if your head decides to call it a day too

I would not run any higher than 17 psi held at 6k on std blues
