Easiest engine swaps for a mk4 escort? More power than a 1.4
I normally run an impreza type ra but i've decided to take it off the road due to the economic climate at the moment, I had the choice of my dads old 1.8D Orion or my first car (the mk4 1.4 CVH) to put back on the road and I chose the mk4, I would like a little more power with minimum fuss because overtaking and a bit of banter in the lanes with my friends isn't on the cards at the moment especially as they run cars like civic type r, bmw 325i, golf gti...etc which I know i'll never get close to but I would prefer it to be a little less embarrassing!
I was thinking an engine out of a mk4 xr3i would be easiest... but I thought I would ask here since you guys are enthusiasts, I did originally consider a 2.0 zetec but there is more involved in the swap than I would be happy taking on... since it's a daily runner and I don't want it to be off the road for more than a couple of days even though I have a 125cc motorbike to faff about on if it takes longer. I've got a fair amount of experience with car mechanics, we have two outfitted workshops.
