Default fieata zetec overheating

Hi can anyone help please i've got a fiesta 1.25 zetec and have got overheating problems. temperature gauge keeps going between half and red every few minutes. not losing any water or actually boiling up but put diagnostic tool on and temp varies between 101 and 114 degrees. also heater not blowing hot. could it just be the heater control valve or something more serious. thanks

Sounds like a air lock, doubt it's actually getting to 114C, as it would be dead by now, look also for shorting wire on the bodywork/engine leading to the temp gauge.

Air Lock sounds likely

However the HCV (Heater Control Valve) are prone to failure, maybe remove it and give it a clean out, or replace if you fel the need to

I know the HCV are dodgy on the KA, is it the same one on the festa then ?, try bypassing the valve for now, if it's easy and see what result is, just feeling hoses should tell you if they are getting same heat as rad pipes etc.
Make sure the de-gas pipe is nice and free, this will be the uppermost small pipe on the expansion tank.

Unhappy

Hi and sorry to piggyback on this KA thread but ive no idea how to create my own question.. Yup, im a noob! But if anyone could shed some light on my problem i'd be most grateful.
I have a ford escort 1998 chicane 1.6 16v that i bought yesterday, the problem is its temp gauge goes straight to maximum as soon as i turn the keys. Ive removed the connector from the sender and checked for a voltage but theres nothing there and the gauge still shows max. Haynes says to check the fuse but the books not too clear on the location and all the fuses in the box are ok, Is there a bypass i can do maybe? Please help as i dont want my car to overheat. Many thanks, Flax.

either fuse or wiring fault mate, I would have thought. having said that mate still try fitting a new fuse, because sometimes fuses can look fine but be buggered. try that first before starting to mess with wires.

Thanks for the reply supramat, ive wiggled the wiring but nothing changes, so im left with the fuse option you mentioned but i have no idea where the fuse is for the coolant sender, ive checked the fusebox and looked in the haynes manual (thats just a headache) do you know where abouts it is mate?
