ST220 brakes for a Mk6 escort Gti?
I have been offered a set of calipers and brackets from a mondeo st220 (mk3 i believe). I know i can drill out the mounting holes for the brackets, so that means i can fit the calipers, but i dont know whether i'll need to space them away from the hub or space the disc, also what discs can i use? The st220 ones i have been told are 300mm but have 5 stud holes and as being as im running the standard gti hubs with 4 by 108 stud pattern this creates a problem. Also do i have to run the full 300mm or would 285mm be ok?
So in summary,
do i need to space the calipers away from the hub? (how much by?)
What discs could I use? (would the 286mm escort cossie ones work or do i gotta use 300mm perhaps st170???)
PLEASE HELP ME ASAP!!!!
Thanxs, chutters.

Escort cossie are 278mm, but being 4wd have a different height the mondy being
300mm 47mm high compared with escos 278mm 36mm high.
The ST170 are 300mm 44mm high, the ones you have I assume are 260mm 45mm high, although also fitted to the 1.8 escort were 240mm(but not gti ?), the st170 discs are ideal, you may find that no mods are needed, certainly not for a 1-3mm diff in height.
Please let us know how you get on as always useful to know, never done this mod myself.

Hey guys thanx for all your replys, I have ordered my calipers now and am just awaiting delivery. Im going to use Black Diamonds Combi discs with their predator pads. Question....... why do I need to use the Mk1 mondeo hoses? Would the hoses from the st220 not work?
Next job is to sort the back end out. Ive heard rumors that If i find the rear beam etc from a front wheel drive RS2K it should in theory bolt straight on and give me rear discs. Is this correct? or just a mis leading rumour?
thanks again all!!!

Rear disc beam will bolt on but ... your GTi will have ABS. So in other words: The ABS light will stay on ..
Only Conversion is using Mk1 Focus rear set up but the hubs need to be machined for the Escort toothed collector ring.
2WD RS's with discs and ABS do not have true 4 wheel ABS like the GTi.
