mfi xr3i fuel pump relay problem.help plz
my stepdad has a white xr3i mfi.when he got it ,it had a problem, the fuel pump relay wasnt bridging across.if u open the relay up and push the solenoid thing cross the pump would work.
i took the relay out and by-passed it with a piece of wire so he could use it.ive since got a new relay that i know works.
i put it in and it bridges across when turned over but doesnt fire up the fuel pump?
anyone have any ideas why?
so ive put the piece of wire back in for now but not sure if that could cause any damage.
cheers.any help apreciated

The piece of wire won't cause any damage.
As the relay is switching ie closing contacts when it should you know it has earth and switch feed, so long as the battery input 30 or 30/51 and the output 87(pump) are not broken it will work, assuming the relay is ok.
Are you sure when you bridge the relay holder you are not doing it between the switch input and 87 output ?

As said MFI don't have then but EFI do, due to the age yours could be either one, but not having a cut out suggests it may be MFI.
I don't know about the relay, perhaps behind the dash, if not in the fuse box?
MFI has a "Timed" relay which is purple and expensive to buy.
