Default 1.8 NA diesel to older TD

hi all,

i have a Y reg mk6 escort van with the non turbo endura diesel (the later one).

i have a M reg escort TD sitting there with the older 1.8TD engine (intercooler on top)

i need to know whats involved in swapping it all over?

wiring?
exhaust different?

i know the mk5 bonet has a vent and my van doesnt but i will stick a little vent in there after its running.

i know some people have said they all have the same compression ratio, but i dont think my later engine is all that much cop anyway, getting a bit slow and lazy to start etc...

not as bad as u think will fit use m reg loom and brain [question is m reg pats] wiring is fairly easy exhaust is mix and match from both vehicles endura engine not all that early turbo engine preety good i did similar mk5b turbo diesel into mk5 cabriolet u may find extra engine mount to subframe near gearlinkage also did mk4 cab that has no extra underbonnet venting gearbox linkage different probably is one lift up reverse and one not ifu have pats u need to do other things not too difficult tho

hey again just for anyone else doing this conversion, i have finished it, its a lot easier than u think
didnt change any loom atall heres what i did...

i decided that my engine was in far better condition and lower miles so i left it in.
i found another post where someone states that the compression ratio of the 1.8D and 1.8TD are both the same (20.5:1)
so took the exhaust manifold and downpipe off, inlet manifold off, oil filter housing off, tapped a little core plug out of the block where the oil return pipe goes in and tapped that in.

put the TD oil filter housing/cooler on, rerouted my heater pipes through it, put the manifolds on with the turbo. connect the turbo oil feed and return pipes.

had to make a downpipe for now out of both but only temp as the original van exhaust is way to restrictive...

put the intercooler on the top of the inlet manifold, also took the underbonet padding from the mk5 that has the air duct for the intercooler, this clipped straight on the mk6 bonet.

changed my immobilised pump for the older TD pump, there was 3 black immobiliser wires going into my pump, i cut them off, found the ignition live out of the 3, put that to the fuel cut-off solonoid on the TD pump, leave the other 2 wires taped up.
run a new starter solonoid wire from the ignition barrel to the starter (it wont turn over now as we just done away with the immobiliser)

all the other wires that went to the original pump i just cable tied them up and done nothing with them! the thing runs perfect, flies like you wouldnt believe on the standard non turbo gearbox lol

so now i have a mk6 1.8 endura de with a mk5 intercooled setup..

it now goes 115mph and runs out of 5th gear. but i dont want to go any faster than that, but as u can imagine, the gears are fairly close and it goes through them pretty quickly now

AND its just as good on juice as it was before!

one problem i have come across is that when i am on the motorway giving it beans on boost, after a while the temp starts going up, but drops as soon as i come off boost, think its just the exhaust restricting it though cuz you can hear it forcing fumes out the tailpipe!

hope this can be of help to anyone else doing this to there 1.8d
