Default Ford Sierra cvh 1.8 cam belt and timing issue

As we were driving home the other day the cambelt broke on my sierra. I checked the all the engine out and when i turn the engine over by hand all the pistons seem to move freely and there is no horrendous noises or anything. I have also checked under the rocker cover and all the valves seem to be moving freely as well. I have put a new cam belt on but when I try to start the engine it won't fire at all. I don't know if the engine is capput or the timing is just not right. Any advice any one could give would be greatly received.
Many thanks

On CVH there are just two pulleys it goes around crankshaft and camshaft which is behind the dizzy, in fact the dizzy on these is no more than a rotor arm attached to end of camshaft. They are 36-1 as standard so what I would do line up missing tooth with CPS, then line up cam pulley (Do not know if this has any scribe marks to match up which simbolates TDC) More than likely you have bent at least one valve. But try this first and see, it may be you have it timed fine but as damaged valve you do not have compression.

the cam pully has a little triangle bit in one of the holes which will line up to a mark on the head lookin through the whole, the crank will have mark on the lower aux pulley that will line up with a mark on the crank pulley cover or u can do this with the lower aux pulley off usin the crank pulley, it has a big washer behind it with a point stickin out line it up with a line on the crankcase these 2 atr tdc, get these right an tension it up, but check an double check its all still timed when tensioned

DON'T line up missing tooth with sensor as this will NOT be TDC, typically it will be 90 degrees, 1/4 turn BEFORE tdc, as it needs the missing tooth info before doing the maths, look instead as said for a mark on the crank pulley to line up with a mark on the cover somewhere.
