mk4 astra van engine manigment light flashing and won't start?
as above i know nothing about vauxhall im a ford man plus iv never worked on a diesel if it was my erst i wouldn't have a problem coz that breaks down all the time iv spent more time fixing it than driving it
right then the van, i havent done any checks yet i thougth i would ask first, this is the newest car iv had so dont know much about engine manigment lights, i know there for sensors and stuff but thats about it.
does anyone have any experience with these vans or any idea what could be wrong, iv only had the van for 6 week and iv only opened the bonnet once to change the oil so i know nothing about about this engine.
any help would be great

if the engine managment light is flashing it may be to do with the chip inside the key for the immobiliser try all the spare keys you have for it. Also if you have a multimeter put it on the battery and make sure it does not drop below 10.5v if it does your battery is causing the problem as the ecu will shut down if the battery does drop below 10.5v.

thanks both it seems like it's an imobiliser problem i been on a vauxhall forum and said the same, and thay seem to think it's the imobiliser as well. thay said if it's flashing, thats the imobiliser, if it was the engine manigment it would stay on all the time.
thanks for your replys

The ecu controls the immobiliser and will still flash the light if the battery voltage is too low. The light will only be on permenatly if there is a problem with an engine sensor. check round the ignition barrel it should have a black plastic ring around it this is the reader coil for the ecu to read the chip make sure it has not been damaged. it is unlikely the ecu has forgotten your keys as they use non-volitile memory so they don't forget the keys if the battery is disconnected.
if you've got another car there stick some jump leads on it and then try and start it if not take the battery off and charge it upover night.
