cooper ring gasket
hi!
does anyone use a coopers ring headgasket in his yb engine?
are they "better" as cometic,grA.......?
my bottom end is converted to cooper rings,
i need a new gasket because i´ve got much
pressure in the coolant
and dont know which to buy.
burton sales a cooper ring gasket which is 1/2 price as
the ggr gasket.
are this the same gaskets?
my bottom end isnt the best, its on 0,5 oversize and need
a hone&new rings,or a overbore,
should i buy a used 200 block,or rebuild my old block?
best regards chris

thank you mechanic,but a headgasket for 450pounds ??
i´m only after 400bhp,i think i needn´t a cooper ring gasket for this power,
i read sometimes a 200er block for the same money,
should i buy a used block and swap my pistons and crank?
or is the goode gasket a 100% perfect thing,
i dont want to buy a expensive cooper gasket,
and have 2month later the same problem.
are the goode gaskets really good?
best regards chris

coopers O ring headgaskets are one of the strongest you get get!what is the exact problem, you say you have pressure in the coolant!i doubt very much its a headgasket problem as it is very rare for the fire rings to fail!usually they just fail the way mine has!but yes they are alot of money as i am thinking of going to a 200 block, but u can not simply swap everything over fella you would either have to get a complete good ready to go 200 block or rebuild one!you do not have to replace the fire rings by the way you can just replace the gasket!but is it worth the risk!have you checked out all other posibiltys?i.e thermostat etc?have u had your coolant sniff tested?

yes mate,i checked everything.
if i drive only low boost,i´ve got no problems,
but if i drive harder (over 20psi) alle coolant hoses are stone hard.
and if i drive really hard, the overpressure valve opens,
why is your gasket failed?
overheated?
its 100% from the gasket, but as i said,my bottom end needs a rebuild
after 20.000 miles running lean.
it was the previous owners, who only chiped the car and
dont changes the fuelpump :-(
i dont know someone who drives a ring gasket, everyone use a grA or tripple layer.
is it really a good gasket or only for race engines?
best regards chris

mines got no running problems as such!just weeping down the block, have u checked for this on yours?under the exhaust manifold?tbh if i had the chance i would not use this type of gasket due to the cost!plus u can only use these due to the machining in the block to except the fire rings!u say u want to rebuild yours?if that the case go for a 200 block and rebuild one of them!there are some in the parts for sale section!

no wepping anywhere, only to much pressure,
can you buy the gaskets and rings individually?
i´m from austria, here are the parts really expensive,
a used block without pistons ect costs ~1000€
and i think it will be difficould to find someone in uk,who sends his
block to austria.
do you know someone how use a 205 block in his 4*4?
best regards chris

A group, a fitted correctly, ie with waiting time, will handle 400bhp all day long, so, long as not using spike chips.
I know of one that runs 540 on a group a and does track days as well as used nearly every day.
Most people do not let the gasket rest when fitting, which can and does result in early failure as it is then loose.

Spikes are by thier nature NOT 5psi as you seem to think, why do you assume all chips have the same characteristics.
Spike chips are hard on the head gasket end of, if NOT accounted for in the gasket selected.
I assume you don't then know what adiabatic pressure is ?
Even std cossie with ZERO miles were blowing headgaskets, when on NVH.
