Another common issue on these engines is the solenoid on the front of the fuel pump goes down causing white / grey smoke on idle lack of power and excessive fuel consumption

Sorry I don't have the part number for the TPS but I can tell you that a second hand one I bought from a breakers had quite a large amount of heat damage to the wiring and fell apart when removed from the donor car.
The smoke problem I was having was the solenoid on the front of the fuel pump as mentioned by flannigan, what I found out was upon starting the car it would run OK for a few minutes then something in the fuse relay box would click and instantly the car would ploom smoke out the tail pipe, I tracked down the relay which was clicking and found it to be controlling the solenoid on the fuel pump just underneath the throttle position sensor, when the solenoid relay clicked off it was smoking and when it was on for the few minutes after start up the car ran fine. So what I did was wire the relay to be on when the ignition was on thus the car stopped smoking I Just left the black TPS fitted.
Hope this helps
Richy
