Default Zetec turbo rover inlet

Hi All.

In the process building my zetec turbo i wanted a rover turbo inlet on it.
Bought one off ebay but on the top of the manifold there's written Injection in stead of Turbo.
My Question is, is this the same ( looks the same ) as the manifold where's written Turbo on it.
If not Can i use it anyway and/or is the *turbo* manifold better?

Thanks

yes you can use it but i wouldn't go and do what everyone else does and just weld a plate on the end for a frst throttle body if you have to cut it and weld it then why not rebuild the whole top half of the plenum then you can have the throttle body anywhere you want and look a lot better

Those manifolds are looking verry nice indeed and when the engine is up and running i'll maybe do something like that but at the moment haven't got the cash for such a manifold.
Engine is prio 1 so just wanted to know for now if they are the same and mine wil fit with an adaptorplate.

Thanks

The above manifold is a volumetric copy of a Mountune, I ran it on my demo car for some time to develop it. Performance wise it got me a 13.1 quarter at Elvington.

My other manifold which is a based on a Pulsar plenum has recorded 380bhp at 26psi on my ZVH.

So I feel it is a little unfair to sugest that we dont know what we are doing!

later rover turbo's which had a coil pack had injection on the manifold but so did the asps
the injector's are different on standard injection and late turbo good injectors though

the best manifold is off thr rover tickford[so i'am told]

With all due respect Simon, cars with much less power than yours claims to be have run the same or faster times at Elvington using OE manifolds!

I don't know if you do or don't know what you're doing as I am not familiar with you or your credentials but i'm not sure a 13.1 time is really a great sales pitch.

Only bolts straight on if you have a ST170 manifold to start with.

Would be interesting to see a pic of the transition between the two chambers inside.

I take it from the bolts in the back plate that you have used pipercross velocity stacks inside?

I don't believe I did. I said i'd prefer an OE manifold. You took that as a personal dig against yourself. You then tried to use a mediocre quarter-mile time as evidence your manifold is great. I am only going by what you are typing!

True, the pic is of a Zetec one. No good pics of CVH ones

The transition between the upper and lower chamber is split into 4 different sized sections.

The ram stacks are 45mm by 17mm long steel items. Dellorto items.

i have seen both on the dynos the rover inlet is no better then std.And makes no extra power over fiesta inlet but the fiesta does have it limit at about 320-330 when it starts chocking as the same on the std turbo zorst manifold.

There is no OE manifold that you can use on the zetec that bolts straight on, so I can see why people use specialist items.

I think the coments used against Simons manifolds are harsh, what's the justification for it being a poor item? 13.1 is dam good in an Escort, how many are faster? Power output would be a better way to gauge a manifold imo.

Most Zetec engine's i've seen aren't really making big power when compared to other forced 16V 2l's. At 350-400hp, I don't think the inlet is being pushed so power differences between them are going to be small. We all know flowbench figures are of limited value when it comes to predecting the dynamic charcteristics of an internal combustion engine. Until somone straps them all to the same 500bhp+ engine on a dyno it's all speculation.

What? Are you saying Zetec engines don't come with manifolds from the factory?

I didn't say anything about his manifold. The bottom line is there are faster cars on OE manifolds so using the time as an indication of manifold performance is silly. As you correctly say, inlet manifold design is about maximum flow and equal distribution (in this context), neither of which are demonstrated in drag racing really.

This is the thing. These engines are not new. People have been building and developing turbocharged zetecs on engine dynos for yonks - it's just they don't come on the internet to waffle about it. I think the important thing that a lot of people forget on this site is that PF is not the be-all and end-all of Ford tuning, infact it barely scrapes the surface.

Here is my new CVH manifold, the twin chamber ones are now all sold, also they are too labour intensive to make.

It is built with 3.4mm rolled H15 Ali, 45mm inlet runners, fully opened up Ford adaptors/inter manifold, modded for siemmns injectors, 45mm rolled steel trumpets with a cossie throttle body on the end.

Price is Ł400 for bare manifold. Just add cossie throttle body and FRST injector rail and fuel pressure regulator.

Simon.

iam waiting for this one to come back from the welders, and the original is being powder coated.i will post a pic when it comes back.
the trumpets where cut off the cossy inlet,so yes alloy.
and the plate is welded into the frame of the cossy item.
iam getting one made that will bolt directly onto the cossy plenum.
