LOL, I think greg was in a world of his own last time...... I'm bringing my camera with me next time to take a pic of his cossy???? It'll make the local news like a UFO sighting...... nah, we're more likely to see a UFO

Not sure the local news are particularly interested either tbh

Just had a thought, maybe we should start a rumour that there is an elusive cossie at the pf meets, should get some tourists around, I mean Nessie's done it for years up in scotland

Could always disguise yours couldn't we ? Isn't that what they do in scotland dress up some cow and get it to wade in the water
Anyway, it WILL make an appearance, just keep popping over from time to time... Well, that's what they say in scotland isn't it ?

oh, and I have just fitted brand new camshaft oil seals, so that oil leak should be gone now... When I took the pulleys off the cams, the old seal was not even seated in the front bearing cap
Just the matter of a thermostat housing o ring now, I know what you think of water leaks craig, but I ain't happy with that one Will be sorted by the week end and on the road, then possibly a little trip to a rolling road to make sure she's running just fine

Soon as she's ready, she'll be out and about... just the way she used to be ! Just need to sort out this poxy water seal thing and make sure she runs ok.
She was running a little rich on the way back from craig's, I think it was the water temp sensor connection that was dodgy, so fixed that, cross fingers it will be ok, otherwise, it's - day off - trip to power engineering - rolling road and spend £££... again !

Well, paddy, it's back on the road, got my water leak sorted, re-wired the dodgy connection to the water temp. sender, but she's still not 100%. Just been out for a quick blast .
Drives ok most of the time, except when she comes on boost with throttle wide open... Sounds like a mis-fire or something. I haven't got a clue now so I'm going to take her to Power Engineering in the next couple of weeks to have her checked over on the rolling road to sort her out .
Could be plugs (only 800 miles on them), dizzy, leads, turbo hoses to air box (well soft), or anything else for that matter - I just don't know, so rather than throw cash at it, I'll get someone knowledgeable to look at it .
I will be there on the 29th , oh, and so will the cossie

NGK 9's, gapped them at .6, then .7mm, always the same.
I have just been out after cleaning the plugs and gapping at .7 from .6, they were covered in black soot after a mile or so.
0.7 is worse than .6 cos now she misfires as soon as I hit 3k, even if I feather the throttle whereas .6 only misfired badly on wide throttle, I could rev her up with careful application of throttle.
I would try .65 but I can't find my feeler blades, my other gauge is just bits of wires of various thicknesses, can't add two together to make .65
I had a similar problem when I put the mongoose exhaust on, spark blowing out. Maybe the new valves are creating more compression and the spark plugs can't take it, or, it is time for a new set of HT leads, maybe they were fine before but not now that the compression has gone up ?
It's definitely a misfire, she makes a "barrp barrp barrp" kinda noise.
Out all day tomorrow in london won't be able to do anything until monday now.

Try closing the gap down a bit more and see what happens or it could be a dead plug!
Dave had a similar problem on his and the plugs had only done about 500 miles and they were the hks superplugs or something like that and cost about £80 odd quid a set. It goes to show that just cause there more money it doesn't mean them, like others dont get the same failure rate ...worth a go at least imo.
Failing that you'll have to have a BBQ next weekend and tie it in with getting the Cossy fixed at the same time

Good idea nath, does my "increased compression theory sound right to you ?"
How low can you go on the gap before it's too small.
s'pose I could always buy a set of plugs to try, and keep 'em until next service if it makes no difference.
Fix car + BBQ - sounds good will talk to the wife and check the social calendar.

Mind you nath, all four plugs are sooty, unlikely they have all failed. I have no power at all when she mis-fires.
I need to check the crank sensor, it looked a little gunky last time I checked, maybe it needs a clean. I will also check the dizzy and rotor arm, just in case they got "rusty" while waiting in the garage for so many months.

Spray the sensor with some lube to clear it in case theres grime and shit in the way and then see what the gap is. It might be worth looking at the rotor arm and the inside of the dizzy to see what there like. Its no doubt something silly and without been able to visualise how the set up is in front of me. I can pop over during the week if thats any godd to you?

Thanks nath, I have just got back from london, will give her a little clean up, check dizzy, etc... and maybe re-gap at 0.5mm (?).
But then again, maybe she's just overboosting, no boost gauge to check
Soo many things to check !

Right, cleaned everything I could, crank sensor (the one by the crank pulley ?), dizzy, rotor arm (both look as new), HT leads both ends, connections at the coil and the plug that goes into the dizzy (covered in oil).
The gap between the crank sensor and the pulley is .4mm, I think that's ok.
I reduced the gap on the spark plugs to .5mm, the car runs noticeably better, even boosts all the way, but still with a slight mis-fire and a few pops and farts !
I also noticed that plugs 1 and 4 were more sooty than 2 and 3, so swapped them round (1 and 2, 3 and 4). Just been out for a drive and 1 looks more sooty than 2 again.
Sounds like weak HT to the plugs to me, maybe I need new leads and a new coil ? Don't believe these have been replaced since I've had the car
I'll ask in the main forum if that sounds ok and how low you can gap plugs...

Right, that's it, I've decided to baptise the car today - her name is
wait for it
wait for it
Nessie !
Cos you ain't seeing her this month, Craig's the only one to have had an encounter and that will probably be it for a while now...
Came back from a quick spin like this:
because of this :
So Nessie of Berkshire it is (might as well go for something pompous since we are in a royal county ).

Nath, managed to get a woodruf key and picked up craig's compression tester yesterday, so I will be compression testing this afternooon...
Cross all ten fingers and ten toes for me
Nessie may just make an appearance at the end of the month !!!
