Mk3 Escort Race Car Build
Hi all 👍🏻
New to the group and just wanted to to share the beginning of my build. Bought my mk3 escort back in 2010 when I was 18 and it's been off the road since 2011.
when I first bought the vehicle I was an inexperienced apprentice but over the year of it being off the road I have become a fairly skilled mechanic. Now it's time to build it with all the parts and accessories I have collected over the years.
I have recently purchased a focus ST170 in panther black which i will be using the engine and gearbox for the build but most of the other parts are available for sale for a small price as the car will only be going to scrap once I'm done with it.
So If any one needs any thing just give us a message.. Back in 2010 when it was on the road
ST170 engine and gearbox removed ready to come homeFinally cleared out the garage and made space for the engine to be stripped and inspected and rebuilt.
For 95000 and no history with the focus it looks in good shape and an ideal engine to start with.

Thanks mate Ive been waiting such a long time to get this project started I just had to many others that got it the way. I will try to keep the photos uploading to share the passion and the problems

When i was a hooligan and it got me into trouble
On the way back from santa pod ultimate street car.. 2011 broken down but with some wd40 and some pliers misifire fixed

both cars look good, I miss the few mk3's I had. Shame the first one my mate filled with filler before I had it and it crumpled in an accident. Second one my ex bent the front suspension cracking the inner wing.

added group a coil , twin fan relays etc.
Are you welding mounts in for the gearbox ?
ive got an stronger ib5 box with lsd to put in at some point if I go st170 turbo , looking at adapting the mk3 mounts to take it
Fav is carbon roof .
Funny how my track one gets more looks than my standard s1

What is it like on the track against others
And are you running all st gear on this one ^^?
I'm going to be using getrag gearbox but I'm chopping off the focus mounting for gearbox and Fabricating it in, and I got to get some custom shaftsmade for it all fun lol

its all s1 stuff at the moment .
Im planning on building a st turbo engine for the black one and using the ib5 box if I can .
The black one is pretty rapid. The white one would be as well but it wants a better clutch , it's slipping . I took out a 4 paddle one because it was a twat to drive .

I'm Back To finally get this Race Car BUILT..
After Posting my first thread about about getting my Mk3 escort built I am finally back to getting this car done for good.
After changing my job I now have a lot more spare time on my hands to finally get my project race car built..
Finally picked the old girl up being in storage for 7 years.
Keep following for a st170 mk3 race car build like no other👍🏻

when you say race car are you going to race it or just do track days, if your going to race it choose a championship and check their regs, then built it to the regs, don't build the car then try and find a championship it will fit in.

It's going to be a track day Road racer. But built same as a mk3 touring car.
But will be a 2.0 N/A
Hopefully one day I will race it. But the project is my first challenge.

Updates..progress..
Cars home..
I gave it a good clean to see how much of my escort had disappeared..
But being dry stored it's pretty much how I left it.
Removed all the parts I had collected since buying..
Then too start on the shell strip down..

Updates..progress..
Few weeks back..
Engine stripped down..
I plan to put the engine block back together hollow with the gearboxe attached just so I can make the engine mounts for the 6 speed gearbox..
The engine is in good shape no heavy wearing on the crank or shells for a 95000 mile engine.
The engine Block bores shows small wear but will be fixed with an oversized forged piston.

Cylinder head is off..
All ready to be sent off for some magic treatment.
Cylinder head is going To be ported/gas flowed
Competition kent cams
Larger valves if possible
Piper cams vernier pulleys with VVT delete kit (retro-ford)
Head skim

New parts arriving makes me happy..
I have built many engines and there's nothing worse than, not having everything you need as you build it.. causing delays on delays..

So more progress on getting the shell in a position to start the repairs
Engine, loom, dash, and everything else to make it nice and empty.. all gone.

Yes I have gone for the competition Kent cams
Highest spec on burton power
Also requires cylinder head machining to 32mm so new lifters will fit.
Upgraded valve springs (yb cossie)
Upgraded spring retainers (yb cossie)
