Looks like a nice build mate.
Why are the coil packs fitted to it instead of a single coil and plug leads?
Are you having to run an aftermarket ecu on it?

Thanks for comments.

Runs Omex 600 and did a coil on plug conversion for reliability. They're VW 2.0 TFSI coils.

I want to move over to Syvecs or Life Racing management at some point.

Not sure how much people are interested in Pumas here but... got some plans for the car or a car and I'm pretty sure of what I want to do, so here goes..

Would anyone be interested in my Puma shell in Ford Aubergine, obviously ready to take 2.0 blacktop and MTX75 gearbox? This would include the engine mounts and adjusted subframe to suit, so basically bolt in and go with all your stuff.

Ideally I would like to keep wheels, suspension, brakes in addition to the obvious of engine, gearbox, radiator, omex, gauges etc.

Recaro interior could go with also.

Alternatively, I could put another engine back in it, either 2.0 zetec N/A or FRS, and sell to someone as fully working again perhaps.

I want to do another (Puma) project and it's definitely going to happen - I just want to find the best way of doing it and I've put a lot of work into my shell that would be redundant with what I want to do, seems a shame not to use it.

Please reply/pm if serious. Can come and view the car also.

Cracking car a credit to you Love the colour coding under the bonnet and the fact it looks stealthy.I bet it goes like a stabbed rat.

Great car proper sleeper, had a look over it at ford fair, nice to see a puma done properly as you don't see many. iv got one as my daily.

I'm interested in following this and your new project.

Do you have space to pick up another shell to do your new project with and keep this going on the road till the time comes you need the main stuff? Thats what i'd probably do, puma's are cheap (or at least used to be)

I really am interested in seeing how you get on mid mounting the engine as its something i've had on my mind a lot lately after reading your ideas.

It does one of the last drives I did in it (ok it was standard) but I went past a Civiv Type R like it was going backwards. He gave up quite quickly. It wasn't even my intention at the time - I was showing someone the amount of wheelspin it gets, which I don't rate at all! Irritating rubbish - you think it's cool when you're younger to be able to wheelspin in higher gears but all it really means is you're not going as fast as you could be

I can't really drive the car now because the turbo has let go so just trying to find a suitable shell that doesn't break the bank and isn't sacrilege to cut it apart at the same time. I'm definitely going ahead with it - if my research is correct it should be a first. One of my concerns is the exhaust manifold will right next to a new bulkhead and will get frightfully hot - still I'll get round that I'm sure.

Please let me now if anyone wants the shell - it won't be bare, and has had a lot of work done to it perhaps I need to put a for sale up and become a gold member, not even sure how to do that.

After searching for a while and discovering that there really are very few low mileage Puma's left, I came across this one that has been sat for a while. It is in need of some TLC in the bodywork department, as expected - it seems that the bodywork isn't really affected by mileage, but by time and how much of the elements it's seen, which would make sense. This one is not much better than another one I recently picked up that's done 115,000 miles.

Will probably keep this one Silver as it's easier. I did want Magnum Grey, but seeing as they only came as a Thunder, they are demanding a higher price and seems a shame to cut one of those up anyway!

I'll be putting a for sale up for my Aubergine shell soon - It's got to go otherwise I can't start this project. Price depends on what goes with it.

I bet there isn't many pumas that dont have rusty arches.

I think the price of a mint Puma will go up in value. I used to have a 1.7 puma and it was a really fun car. It handled well to9 but it did have the front lower strut brace on it and 20 mm axle spacers on the rear.

I also fitted a 2ltr throttle body and cone filter. I had a bit of a play against a standard 1.7 puma and it just pulled away from mine ha ha ha.

We've had a few Puma's at work that haven't been that bad, and some that have been complete rot boxes

But keeping an eye on this thread looking good.

It's such a shame, as they're actually really good cars. Ford's bodywork and corrosion protection back then was non-existent. Imagine how good these would be if they galvanised the shells like they do now.

I've stripped out a little more than this.

Anyone interested in the adapted subframe and all the engine mounts? (except the torque itself for gearbox - I need that) Gives you everything needed minus the torque link to mount a blacktop zetec and MTX75 box into the Mk4/Mk5 Fiesta and Puma.

Really looking forward to seeing how you progress with the mid mounted engine as its something i'm contemplating.

I saw your other post regarding the aircon, if you are keeping the rads at the front then it should just be a case of longer lines i'd have thought. It would really help you having it as it will keep the cabin cool as well. Its what i'm planning on doing if I do this project.

It's whether it has any detrimental effect to the performance.

I am imagining that the charge cooler rad will be at the front, followed by the A/C condenser, then engine radiator. And yes, can make the pipes down the car no problem. Would just need the flex hoses made onto the compressor and at the front. I have looked into electric compressors, but they're even more parasitic compared to running it off an auxiliary belt.

dont think it would be a problem to keep the air con although you wouldnt want to load up the compressor too much by increasing the back pressure with loads of pipe. It would need loads more refrigerant as the system would be larger in volume but thats not a major problem

Toyota prius use electric air con compressor but then it has loads of battery power on board and has to run aircon when the engine is not being used. Where did you get the info on parasitic's from? what was you basis for comparison?

Looking at the Clio V6 air con pipes shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Yes, I saw the Prius uses an electric compressor, relatively cheap too. But to keep things simple I think using standard Focus compressor should work ok.

Googled the loading of electric compressors, and some logical sense in my head.. every change of power conversion there will be some losses so makes sense to drive the pump directly off the engine, rather than loading the alternator more, to charge a battery, to then run the compressor

The brake reservoir from the Puma fits on the master cylinder - result! But when fitted back onto the servo it's tight against the back so will probably make some spacers for the master cylinder. Other than that, it bolts straight on

Also managed to get hold of a Mk2 Focus RS throttle body, DBW and a Mk2 Focus ST pedal (same part number as the RS one). They seem to be dirt cheap, so I thought why not.

Car is booked for Fab work at DJM spring next year - should be doing engine mounts and rear geometry, to give me back a rolling shell. Thought about doing it myself but I don't have the equipment to get it all spot on, and if it didn't handle right because the geo was wrong, everything else would be a waste of time.

Here's where I'm at, with a little more progress on the Silver one. Seats and carpet out. Started poking around with the screwdriver and there are several holes, I'm not surprised mind, worst of it is round the rear arches and rear sills which is normal. The areas on the floor are normal too, it's where the sealer cracks underneath and then water sits in there and rusts upwards through the floor.

finally got some progress. Car is pretty much stripped and finally went to DJM on Tuesday.

Picked up a dummy engine a while ago for them to use and mount in the back together with my gearbox.

Now decided to use FRS hubs, shocks and driveshafts at the rear to keep as many off the shelf items as possible.

New control arms at the rear will be made with new mounting points.

Front end will also be adjusted to take into account the different weight distribution.

Not much exciting going on at the moment but should be something interesting when it starts getting cut up

Not far from me that. I've seen their work and it's epic. This will be a great project. If you need any other alloy stuff like header tanks, radiators, intercoolers etc my mate Jim owns alloy racing fabrications he's just around the corner from there. (Well 2 or 3 miles)

I'm hoping it will turn out to be something a bit different, still aiming for a road trimmed car so will be interesting.
