I had spent the last 4 years collecting most of the parts required to build the escort up, but due to lack of free time i decided to pack up the escort and take it to A1rallysport for steve to work his magic,
so with the help of my good friend clayton at cjp autosport it was loaded up and taken on a road trip

Once at A1 rallysport i discussed build options for the escort, the engine was to be removed and the bay popped for extra bracing to the roll cage in the bay, a repaint of the under bonnet area and a few other nice modifications, one being electric powersteering from the mercedes a class

new strut bracing

mercedes a class electric pas

new steering pump brackets fabricated

Once the fabrication was complete the engine was removed and the bay stripped back to prep for painting, bay was then primed and painted in good old diamond white

When the paint was dry it was time to mock up and fit new aero lines for the steering and start the fit up of tanks and engine bay fittings

Thanks. So are you using the standard 4X4 rack, power assisted by the merc pump not powered from the belt driven pump on the engine, i have found on youtube a video using vauxhall astra electric power steering pump on a ford falcon, here in OZ 106 and saxo,s are not that common but the astra is everywhere.
It has a pump like in the pic.

Thats correct, plumbed in with an fittings machined to fit the standard rack, you can also wire in a toggle switch on the dash to increase decrease speed to weight the steering to your preference, i do believe that any hydro electric pump will be fine, i just chose the a class one as its quite compact and readily available

The cars coming on nicely, I've not been up to see it in a while but have spoken to steve at a1 rallysport and plan on popping up once we are all allowed out to play again, its a long term project so not really rushing things as i want it to be right, plus I've got other projects on the go lol

The escos had a poor fuse box, so good idea replacing the loom. Modern management is also a big plus these days
My own escos has fuse box issues and I could do with finding a nós one to save me a lot of fooking about lol
I was tempted to cage my own escos but got talked out of it by my mate's

May over at some point mate a look at that power steering set up. Was looking forward to putting mine together this summer but who knows now with this virus shit and lockdown. But while I’m not spending it I’m saving it lol.

A class pumps easy to find on eBay Andy, couple of an fittings and a sub loom you’re sorted mate, plus on less pulley to run off the engine
