I wonder if it was a factory option or did the previous owner get it done.

Someone said mine was rare as that has a factory fitted sun roof, I just thought they were having me on ? (I would sooner not have one).

Nice looking Focus though

apart from the comfort and custom packs things like rear spoiler, electric sunroof, parking sensors and sat nav were factory options available at time of initial ordering at the dealership, mine was a essex ford demonstrator so ticking a box to select all options did not cost them a penny but in my case left me with one hell of a high spec 170

What will you go for next.

It sounds daft but it seems a better built car compared to the wifes 1.6 focus zetec.

open mind tbh as long as its a ford, not interested in new cars tbh as this was as new as I will be going, have a mk2 cortina ready for some tlc but a daily driver will be higher priority if the 170 goes

decided to hang onto the 170 for now as prices for good examples are starting to rise and even the recent tempting offer of 2800 just was not enough to let it go instead I spent more money on it , anyway after a wash and detail this morning heres how it sits now for those who like the 170 that is

Looks good, with the way these are being broken and used pretty much as bangers I think it makes a good bit of sense to hold onto one, especially with the features in yours.

I know what you mean as I am breaking 3 at moment but high spec ones are very thin on the ground and I was pretty lucky to pick up my dealer ex-demonstrator which so far I have not seen another with same spec on any other club/forum yet

Looking nice matey. Did you say yours has the sat nav head unit too. You very rarely see high spec ST170s about. A few of them have the climate pack but not many have the comfort pack.

Steve how sloppy is your gear Knob. Mine needs looking at again cause it feels sloppy.

yes mate it came with 2 headunits, the blaupunkt sat nav & 9006 audiophile, both were coded same security number from the factory so just a matter of choosing which you wanted, as for gearlever may well be stretched cables on yours glenn or maybe gearlever wear as mine still feels like a very tight like new but then again mines only just covered 40k

Just about the gearbox Glen here's something I've read about them getrags. I know there used in a few motors.

I got rejected for roadworthy because of mine being sloppy.
I had a circlip missing from the gearshift. Had that replaced and it was a tiny bit better, but still there is movement when in gear.
The rwc tester said the bushes needed replacing (but passed it because the circlip relacement made it a bit better).
The mechanic says even with a new linkage it would never be completely tight, its just the way they are.
There are apparently 2 bushes, one on the gearbox side and one above the linkage?? I cant remember specifically where the mechanic said, but he told me its something you do when you have to do a job on the gearbox. ie leave it alone until you have to go poking around in there.
The circlip holds on a rubber bushing on the selector. If it's come off there will be a lot of play in it and won't feel like a smooth gear change. I'd say the cable are fine but you could always put some lube down them.

I had the OE set and also had them pro refurbed too but have never been a fan of them mainly due to shonky centre caps and pain in the ass cleaning them too, I even changed them for smaller DMB ones but they still did not set my world alight and always been a sucka for 5 spokes keeping OE tyre size and handling, I still have afew sets of OE wheels kicking around anyway as I break these 170s

well time for a 2016 nudge for those of you who like 170s as its still sitting here, freshened up the brakes last week with a set of drilled/grooved all round & Ebc pads and while in that area chucked on some matt lewis racing braided hoses and rear being a pain as it had 4 flexi's, and also replaced all the rear arms and bushes so it handles better than new, worst thing is it did'nt need them I was just bored lol

they are a dead ringer for the Kahn RSR paul but these are german ones which I had refurbed a couple of months back, and do suit the car as I hate cleaning multi spokes

Did you get the rear bolts out ok Steve. There always rusty as fook.

Ive always thought would it be easier buying a rear beam from a scrapy then replace all the suspension arms/bushes.

I think this would be the best way to do them.

My wifes focus has a bit of a knock on the back. I cant find fook all on it. I said to her its bot worth spending the money on the car cause we would be lucky if its worth 400 quid.

been a while so thought it worth a quick update, recently installed a superchips map and found it tweeked the delivery of power smoothing out the rev range as I noticed it right away, also obtained a some 18" oz superturismos & new rubber for summer use, will be hanging onto my 5 spokes for winter though and had it detailed by a pro so its ready for show season if I choose to take it

I was going to fit them for passionfords birthday party at the ace cafe in 3 weeks time so we shall all see how it looks then mate, if I had realised I was taking the 170 to simply ford yesterday I would have fitted them for that but it was very last minute having to take the focus so it went on the 5 spokes
